Reality - READ ON, IT’S IMPORTANT :: I’m just breaking my South Australian roadtrip posts up to talk about something really important. . If you’ve watched my stories you would have seen that i’m talking about something quite personal. . I wasn’t going to share our story publicly (on my business page), but since i have this platform and a voice i believe it’s important to use it for something so serious. I’ve always been pretty open about my personal struggles and considering our story is now in the media and in the news, more than anything we want to bring attention to this epidemic which is killing young tradies, like my partner. . My partner was diagnosed 6 months ago with Silicosis, which is a terminal lung disease caused by breathing in silica dust particles while working as a stonemason. The thing is this deadly workplace disease is completely preventable and should never have happened to my partner and others. In the last few months alone over 100 stone masons have now been diagnosed, most of them in their 20’s and 30’s. There is no treatment and no cure for this disease and it is heartbreaking. . If sharing this story brings more public awareness to the preventable and deadly lung disease, which is Silicosis, and if even one stonemason goes and gets themselves checked, then it’s been worth speaking out. . Safety in the workplace and working conditions should be a priority, no one should ever goto work and end up with a terminal disease. Things need to change within the industry, it’s too late for us but it can change for the future. . Out of our heartbreak and telling our story we hope we can help others dealing with this diagnosis who are also dealing with the path that we are now on. . The last 6 months since my partners diagnosis have been heartbreaking for both of us and a living nightmare that we would never wish upon anyone. Above all we have each other, our families, our friends and we are being as positive as we possibly can under the circumstances. .
