*'Memorial Day' was started by former slaves - on May, 1, 1865 - in Charleston, SC... to honor 257 dead Union Soldiers who had been buried in a mass grave in a Confederate prison camp. .
.
They dug up the bodies and worked for 2 weeks to give them a proper burial, as gratitude for fighting for their freedom. .
.
They then held a parade of 10,000 people - led by 2,800 Black children - where they marched, sang, and celebrated. .

Posted @withrepost • @speakingofracism Can we talk? Time after time, it’s the same old argument applying the same old tired principles. People talking about how someone should behave when dealing with the police, jurors letting cops off because they can relate to and understand how scary it might have felt if they were in said officers position. I read these words today, and they so succinctly point to the insanity and #racism woven into these thoughts. And yet, time after time people spout these lines. Who wants to change the conversation? #antiracist #radicaldharma ##whitemaleprivilege #whitefragility #whiterage #racismisreal #janeelliot #dothework #antiracism #antiracismeducation #dothework #activist #antidiscrimination #stopracism #civilrights #noracism #racialequality #antinazi #wherechangestarted #changestartedwithme #beantiracist #equality #socialjustice #socialjusticewarrior @joynerlucas appears to be the original writer of this quote.

**Ilustración AfroUp de Jenniffer Mayren Urrutia Briñez CEO, Strategic Planner, Community Manager, Designer and Blogger

I'm a black American, I am proud of my race. I am proud of who I am. I have a lot of pride and dignity.

The color of a person’s skin has nothing to do with the content of their character. It [racism] is cruelty, it’s ugly, and I hate it. You are my brother. If you are Black, White, Arab… We are all the same. I love all races equally. I love all people of the world.
.
Maybe I look at the world through rose colored glasses but I love people all over the world. That is why stories of racism really disturb me. Because in truth I believe ALL men are created equal, I was taught that and will always believe it. I just can’t conceive of how a person could hate another because of skin color. I love every race on the planet earth. Prejudice is the child of ignorance. Naked we come into the world and naked we shall go out. And a very good thing too, for it reminds me that I am naked under my shirt, whatever its color. Teach your kids to love all people equally. I speak from my heart saying I love you and all people.
.
If you go to one of my concerts, my shows, you will see 200,000 people swaying, holding candles, saying, “We want to heal the world” and “We love you”. I’ve seen it around the world from Russia, to Germany, to Poland, to Africa, to America. We’re all the same. People cry in the same places in the show. They get angry in the same places in the show, they get the pathos in the same places.
.
Nation to nation, the world must come together, face the problems that we see – then maybe somehow we can work it out.
