Orientation •My cohort is only about 40 people, and I’m so excited for that! We were all already chatting, and I’m looking forward to getting to know everyone better. •Our clinical groups will be divided into 10 students each. •We don’t get to pick our schedule, our clinical group, or clinical location. •I have to either take out my nose ring or get one of those clear studs. •Our first few weeks of class will be 8am-5pm, 5 days a week. •We have a test every other Monday. •We do have clinical first semester. I am most excited for that! From what I hear it’s basically shadowing and maybe getting to do a few skills here and there, but I’m so ready to be getting hands on experience and learning the ways of the hospital. •Our scrubs need to be navy blue with no other colors or designs on them, no slits on the ankle, not too tight or too loose. •Stethoscopes can’t have any kind of personalization to them, like clips and whatnot. •We have to wear our hair back in a low bun or pony tail. •We have 23 chapters to read over the summer. •I have 3 chances to get a 90 on the dosage calculations test. •The first semester book list is between $500 and $800. Haven’t decided whether I wanna buy them used online or in the bundle at the bookstore. And whether I wanna do e-book or hardcover.The benefits of hardcover is being able to sell them afterwards, plus I do prefer to physically hold my books. But the search bar function of e-books is great, plus I wouldn’t have to lug around a heavy backpack. •We test through HESI and not ATI. •We get Summers and holiday breaks off with the rest of the school, so the ADN program at my location is a full 2 years long. •We were given a ton of info at orientation, and I’m probably leaving out some juicy details lol. Overall I am EXCITED to begin nursing school in the Fall! But first, gotta tackle Pharmacology in the Summer.

Officially starting week 8 as a new grad . I’m honestly shocked I’m already two months into my new grad program which means only one month left of orientation. . By this time, I am taking care of all 2-3 babies by myself. I do all cares, feedings, pass medications, set up IV meds, talk to families and give report without my preceptor with me at all times. My preceptor or respiratory therapist will help me with positioning if I have an intubated baby. I really really love my preceptor She is always available if I have questions or if I want a second set of eyes and she doesn’t make me feel stupid for asking questions. For the most part, she lets me “do my thing”. I am still very rocky when it comes to talking with doctors or answering some specific questions, so she’s always there to help. . Overall, I am REALLY loving my job! I still feel like I don’t know anything and I will most likely feel this way for a very long time. But I’m really proud of the progress I’ve made so far and I’m looking forward to the next few weeks.
