Today, we pedaled 100 miles through the prairies of Wyoming. • It’s remarkable—the things we as people are capable of when we get out of our own way.

Sun scorched the earth, cracking the clay beneath our bikes like delicate china. The pavement of the road radiated heat that could soft our tires. And if it weren’t for the rainiest year on record here in South Dakota, nearly nothing would be growing in the Badlands. We followed the loop road for 30 miles, stopping intermittently to ogle at the crimson and tan striped buttes that jut out of the dusty earth. Bison roam the land their ancestors once inhabited in abundance before their near extinction in the late 1800’s. And though it’s eerily desolate the further you wander into the park, it seems that’s precisely where the real wonders of nature reveal themselves. KAQ
