After a week of being home with this chap we made our first solo outing as a family of four today. Martha had a lie in, we got ourselves ready and we were on our way to @rhswisley before 10.30am with only minor toddler meltdowns. We are still very much planning days around toddler schedules, luckily for us we have an easy going newborn, well, until cluster feeding witching hours 8-11pm kick in! The next challenge will be when hubby is back at work and I have to get out the house on my own with the pair of them! . . . AD (hosted) This morning we were invited to a lovely little party with @surreybloggercollective to celebrate a few of the groups babies turning 1 this spring! We sadly missed the first part as Henry had his immunisations but we made it just in time for a teddy bears picnic at @chobhamadventurefarm with gorgeous cakes from @pandibakes (gifted) the boys both had a blast in the outdoor play areas. Although I wanted to go and see the animals Oliver had other ideas and darted indoors to the soft play and once he’s in it’s hard to get him back out ‍♀️ but to be fair it’s one of the nicest soft plays around here so I didn’t mind too much! I just can’t believe all our babies are turning one already! But it’s been so lovely as these babies have allowed us mummy’s all get to know each other more ❤️

High atop the mossy stone steps, a vibrant punch of red leaps out from the background - a dramatic contrast to the gentle surroundings. ‘The Red Square’ by Andrea Schulewitz is new to the Sculpture Garden this year, and is already making quite an impression. Viewed from the bottom path and climbing the steps towards it, light and shadow shift and change the viewers’ perception of depth and perspective. Is it flat? Is it 3D? Only closer inspection will tell. . “The Red Square is an optical work. The proximity of orange and red planes bounces light around, intensifying and altering the depth of hue and tone. Much like elements in Japanese gardens, the Red Square compliments nature in form and colour, and it needs time and light to reveal itself. We are officially open for the 2019 season! . What better way to kick things off than glorious sunshine bathing the stunning new collection of sculptures, and what better place to start than with Rob Mulholland’s ‘Encounter’ placed in the Wild Garden. We are thrilled to be exhibiting Mulholland’s work this summer, and cannot wait to see how these pieces truly become part of the landscape as the garden blooms. Exploring the complex relationship between humans and the natural world, his pristine mirrored figures blend in and out of the environment, leading the viewer to question whether they are really there, and to alter the viewer’s perception of space.

Yesterday I took the kids to Priory Park in Reigate - 25 mins from Cobham and what a lovely place it was. We parked at Morissons for free for two hours but we did go and buy our picnic food from there. The car park is a 2-3 minute walk from this play area. It’s designed a bit like Tellytubby land with lots of green and interactive areas for the kids - they loved the sprinkler area even if we did forget swimmers! It’s also totally free to get in! For those of you who don’t want to picnic there is a fab cafe which serves stonebaked pizzas and sarnies etc. Definitely worth the journey over! Any other parks with splash areas you’ve been to that you would recommend

Explore and learn Today we were very lucky to be invited to preview the new Children’s Garden @kewgardens that opens this Saturday. It is based around the elements and designed for ages 2-12, and is simply, incredible. My nearly two year old was absolutely in her element! From mini trampolines in the Air garden, to water pumps in the Water garden, a giant sandpit in the Earth garden, adventure playgrounds for big and small kids and a tree top walkway there really is something for all ages. I wondered how you make a garden interactive for such a varied age group but it is a vibrant sensory overload and even I was running around like a big kid let alone Martha who had an absolute blast. I genuinely can’t recommend the garden enough, it is a must visit if you are venturing to Kew! (#presstrip #ad) . . .
