And we’re here! We had a very, very long day travelling yesterday. We didn’t get into bed until what would have been about 5am UK time! Both boys travelled so well but were super tired today (Henry slept for all of about 45 minutes on the flight!!) We decided to take the day a bit slower than we had planned so ended up getting the PATH train across from Hoboken, where we’re staying, and visited the Highline and Chelsea Market. The weather was beautiful, so it was nice to get out and walk around in the sunshine and enjoy some delicious lunch (we had Italian sandwiches and they were just ) We caught the ferry home, which the boys loved, and we’re all ready for our bed. Fingers crossed there won’t be a fire engine coming past the apartment at 3am with their sirens blaring to wake me up because I am wiped out!

I’ve always been the one taking photos, even when I was a child I remember my Mum teaching me how to compose a photo I love natural, spontaneous pictures, I also like posed ones and today I mostly love this self timer/balance the camera on a bag one of me and my biggest girl in the blossom. I’m going to miss her when she’s back to school next week, it’s been the loveliest two weeks Also, can I just be a typical Brit and say HOW NICE HAS TODAY BEEN?! ☀️ #petalsandpeople #spring #alltheblossom #blossom #springhashtagchallenge #surreymum #surreymummy #surreymama

{Tidy Kids ~ Day Seventeen} Toys (part 1 of 7): Theory. . Parents often tell me that toys are their “Komono Everest”! According to an article in The Telegraph (2017), a typical child in the UK owns 238 toys in total but parents think they play with just 12 of their ‘favourites’ on a daily basis ~ only 5% of their total toys. . KonMari is not about owning less however, it’s about keeping only the things that spark joy ~ that bring happiness. Therefore there is no magic number when it comes to the amount of toys a child should own. What’s important is whether the toy makes your child happy, is being used and is in working order. Just like the categories before, only your child can choose the toys they wish to keep. If they choose to keep everything, remember that through completing their happy checks they are becoming more mindful of what toys they own and how many. As you are the one who is responsible for what comes into the home; knowing how many toys they already own can help you to feel confident in restricting the toy avalanche if necessary. . Task: As this challenge is just a taster to the KonMari Method, I’m not asking you to confront your “Komono Everest” today by bringing all of your child’s toys to one location. But for you and your child to grasp the overall volume of toys in your home, we’re going to try and count them, before sharing the number. . Mini task: Ask your child: how many toys do you think you own? Next… count your toys! . Show & Tell: What’s the number? Or, if you prefer, what range does it fall in? 0-50 50-100 100-200 200+ ‍♀️ I’ll kickstart this with Ro and Hemmie’s combined number of toys = 51.

{Tidy Kids ~ Day Thirty}Living as a Tidy Kid (part 3 of 4): Christmas Gifts. . Christmas is not about giving and receiving gifts ~ it’s so much more than this and an important religious holiday for so many. The purpose of this post is to offer some tips for parents who feel overwhelmed by the amount of gifts that come into their homes at this time of year. . KonMari lays the foundation for being a more mindful consumer; you buy items because they will fulfill a specific need or gap in what your little ones currently own. If you or someone in your child’s life wishes to acknowledge the relationship with the act of giving a gift, but there isn’t a need for a physical item, you can always ask for the gift of an experience. Examples include tickets to the cinema, theatre or a museum or an annual pass to their favourite soft play or local kiddy hotspot. . ‘We need to show consideration for others by helping them to avoid the burden of owning more than they need or can enjoy.’ (LCMOTU, pg. 66) Enlist the help of your family and friends to support your children in maintaining control of additional items coming into the home. . Task: Sharing an experience list with your family and friends during the festive season can be very helpful; many people appreciate having a few ideas for something they know your children will enjoy doing. There may be setbacks ~ there is no guarantee that all of your family and friends are on the same wavelength ~ but stay strong, there are many Christmases to come and if you set the boundary now, you’re taking active steps to curb unnecessary or unwanted items coming into your home. . Mini task: Make a list of all your favourite places to go as a treat. What are your top five? This list can be a good starting point for discussing how the thrill of receiving a physical gift may fade quickly but the joy and memories of experiences can last a lifetime. . ✅ TIP: If you don’t have children of your own, but have children in your life such as nieces, nephews or friend’s children, of if you’re a grandparent, you can help their parents to curb the Christmas gift tidal wave by following the advice above. . . . . : @twotwentyone

The time I met Marie Kondo. . This week marks a whole year since I trained with @mariekondo at the first KonMari seminar in London. And what an incredible year it’s been! Thank you so much for your ongoing support everyone ~ it’s a pleasure to be part of such a warm, positive community . When I met Marie, I thanked her for guiding me in my journey to transform my home. I hugged her too (*cue KonMari staff thinking I’m a nutter*) because her beautiful little book transformed my home, my mindset and my career. . What would you say to Marie if you had a chance to meet her? Hugs too?!
