Alia, a 10-year-old female bottlenose dolphin, died early yesterday morning on May 22nd at @dolphinarisarizona. This facility has only been open for 1.5 years and 2 of their 8 dolphins are already dead... 7-year-old Bodie passed away last September, and now Alia too. Dolphins do NOT belong in the desert. . Alia was born at SeaWorld Orlando on December 4th, 2007, to Ariel and Sebastian. Prior to her transfer to Dolphinaris Arizona in August 2016, she lived at both Discovery Cove and Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. . According to Dolphinaris Arizona, Alia’s cause of death is unknown. They also stated that “Alia had displayed some unusual behaviors in the last few days and she was being monitored.” . Dolphinaris Arizona’s official statement: “With deep sorrow, the Dolphinaris Arizona team would like to inform our guests about the passing of Alia. The exact cause of death has not yet been determined. Alia had displayed some unusual behaviors in last few days and she was being monitored. She was under continual care by Dolphinaris staff and veterinarians. A necropsy will be performed, and the results will be reported and shared in the coming weeks when they become available.” . : @thebreaknetflix SeaWorld is no stranger to much-deserved criticism for their shocking exploitation and abuse of some of the world’s most intelligent life forms. SeaWorld has seen a significant drop in ticket sales as awareness has spread, and they have made several attempts to fix their tarnished reputation, including a recent announcement stating they will ban plastic straws and bags at their parks, and comedian Michelle Wolf had something hilarious to say about it on her new Netflix series, The Break… Wolf is correct to point out that SeaWorld’s mistreatment and neglect does, in fact, lead to premature deaths of whales and other animals in their care, like the beluga whale who died at the park in 2015 as a result from a broken jaw or the three-month-old orca who died at the park in 2017. Additionally, an investigation revealed that around 150 animals (sea lions, dolphins, beluga whales, and orcas), died from infections at SeaWorld in the past 30 years. Thanks to eye-opening documentaries like Blackfish and The Cove, the general population has become increasingly more aware of the brutalities involved in animal captivity in aquariums and tourist attractions like SeaWorld. Smart companies, often with the push from activists and organizations like PETA, have cut ties with SeaWorld and pledged not to support or promote the vile company. Among these companies are Taco Bell, Thomas Cook, JetBlue, Southwest Airlines, Hyundai Motor America, Panama Jack, and now, WestJet! WestJet makes this decision after encouragement from PETA and over 160,000 animal advocates who sent the company emails asking them to cut ties with SeaWorld.
