11 pm, May 27... just before sunset near Talkeetna, Alaska. I was looking for a new place to boondock for the night and accidentally found this spot. It was so beautiful I had to get the flying camera out. I flew straight over them lake and then up and around to the connecting lakes. I returned via the same path because in the far end of the main lake I saw some ducks. I wanted to see how close I could get before they became irritated enough to swim the other way. To my surprise, the were curious about the drone. The followed it all the way back to where I was. Then I realized they weren’t ducks... they were Loons. They let me hover about 18”-2’ above the water( the reason for all the ripples and bubbles) and still weren’t annoyed. They kept diving and going about their business but still making it closer to the shore. Then my battery was near the end of its cycle. As soon as I landed the drone, they saw me and swam off. ‍♀️. It was almost magical... the colors of the sunset, the calm waters, when I arrived there was a rainbow, the distant rain fall, the Loons... all ruined by the swarms of mosquitoes !
