A spectacular view of Reynolds Falls thanks to @rob_parsons1 who says "Brave or Stupid? Winter hike to Reynolds Falls. Blew the dust of my gear for a walk to the infamous Reynolds Falls. Did not disappoint. Every Tassie photographer worth his salt has a picture of this absolute icon, this weekend I grabbed mine." Reynolds Falls is a steep 15km hike (one way) to the west of the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park. Located on the Vale River, the track to these falls was cut in 1979 by Ossie Ellis and Laurie Wootton, but is rarely maintained today. The falls sit at an altitude of around 300m.
The track starts at the back of the Cradle Mountain Lodge at a clearly signed track head. This is in fact the end of the Penguin-Cradle Trail. Reynolds Falls is signed at this point and because the track starts within the National Parks boundary, a Parks Pass is required. They can be purchased at the Cradle Mountain Visitor Centre.
This walk is a photographers dream with old forests, alpine meadows, cascades, and plenty of fungi to keep you entertained. We cannot understate that the walk is very hard though and you must be prepared for all weather conditions, the steep terrain and loose/slippery paths Click on our Tasmania facebook page (link in our bio) to see a pretty special video from Reynolds Falls

Sunset from 'The Neck' lookout thanks to @jeon_landscapes
Bruny Island's 'The Neck' is an isthmus of land connecting north and south Bruny Island. The Neck is an important habitat for Bruny’s native wildlife, and here you’ll find the Neck Game Reserve. Boardwalks and viewing platforms enable you to observe short-tailed shearwaters and little penguins (also known as fairy penguins). You can see these remarkable birds returning to their burrows in the sand dunes at dusk—little penguins making their way up the beach in tight groups and the shearwaters gliding in from the sea You can also take the 255 steps to Truganini Lookout, a monument commemorating the Aborigianla woman of the Nuenonne tribe whose country had been Bruny Island and the Channel area of the mainland. The views from the lookout are incredible... as far as the eye can see Just a couple of kilometres along the road is 'The Neck' camping ground. The camping area is very well sheltered among trees behind the dunes at the southern end of the beach ⛺️ #TasmaniaGram #InstaTasmania #InstaTassie #tasmania #tassie #tassiepics #brunyisland #thenecklookout #theneck #truganinilookout
Tassie's best kept winter wonderland secret: Meander Falls ❄️❄️ Thank you to @hayleygcrowden for sharing this amazing photo from her family walk over the weekend. Hayley says:
"Spectacular bush walk to the frozen Meander Falls." Now is the time to start planning your trip to Meander Falls... have you ever seen a more beautiful falls.
Located over 1000 metres above sea level, snow can occur all year round in the area (how cool is that!). The walk commences from the Meander Falls carpark area, where various different hikes can be taken to Meander Falls. The main track to Meander Falls is a 6.5 hour return hike that commences at 600 metres above sea level. The track is decent and well marked in most places, but is steep in places.
Meander Falls is in the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area below the Great Western Tiers and just an hour's drive from either Devonport or Launceston. This is one of Tassie's great adventures and your reward is:
The roar of a winter wonderland waterfall, a magical 'Narnia' like view, incredible never seen before colours. Oh... and did we mention it was also snowing ❄ #TasmaniaGram #InstaTasmania #InstaTassie #tasmania #tassie #tassiepics #meanderfalls #waterfallsoftasmania #winterwonderland
The pristine Pine Lake, in the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, thanks to @jadehallam who says: "My son Okah and I took a drive up onto the plateau this morning and were met with -1 temps and this…" ❄ The Pine Lake walk offers a rare opportunity to get close to one of Tasmania’s rarest trees without having to go on an extended bushwalk. The pencil pine is an ancient species that evolved before flowering plants and which is only found in the Tasmanian highlands
Many of the Tasmanian conifers are unique to Tasmania. The pencil pine (Athrotaxis cupressoides), is generally restricted to sub-alpine areas above 800 m. Like its relative, the King Billy pine, it can reach ages greater than 1200 years. Pencil pines are often seen around the shores of highland lakes and tarns, creating the unique ambience of these beautiful areas of Tasmania.

A stunning capture of Philosopher Falls thanks to @father_richard who says Philosopher Falls on a winter Sunday walk with @anna_does_insta.
The track winds through a patch of beautiful Tarkine wilderness rainforest and follows an old water race to steps that take you down to a viewing platform to view the waterfall. While it was raining the sun did break through the clouds and shine a little light. Prints/Queries - message me or email: peterdowling290@gmail.com
