チェンマイに来たら必ずと言っていいほど訪れる寺院、ワット・プラタート・ドイステープ。 標高1080mのステープ山の頂に建ち、境内からはチェンマイ市街を一望できる。 ちなみに「プラタート」とは、タイ語で「仏舎利（釈迦の遺骨・遺灰・毛髪など）」を意味し、プラタートと名がつく寺院は仏舎利が収められている寺院ということになる。 プラタートを冠した寺院はタイ国内に20寺以上あり、その全てが北部と東北部に集中している。 プラタートとは必ずしも本物の仏舎利だけでなく、宝石や高僧の遺骨・遺灰などが含まれることもあるそうだ。 この金色に輝くドイステープ寺院の仏塔を見あげていると、チェンマイに来た感がフツフツと込み上げてくる。 今回は超広角レンズを持ってこなかったのが心残り…

旧市街南側のチェンマイ門から伸びるウアライ通り。銀細工の村として発展してきた歴史を持つこの通りの片隅に、その象徴と言うべき存在がある。 それがこの「シルバーテンプル」だ。 細かな装飾がびっしりと施された銀の本堂は“圧巻”の一言。 夜はライトアップされ、本堂全体がメタリックに輝き、異世界に吸い込まれそうな雰囲気を醸し出している。 残念ながら本堂は女人禁制で女性は立ち入ることができない。

チェンマイ旧市街のほぼ中心に位置し、巨大な仏塔が有名な寺院、ワット・チェディルアン。 遺跡のような風格のあるレンガ造りの仏塔は、1411年に建てられたもの。 1545年に起きた地震でかなりの部分を毀損してしまったが、建築当時は86mもの高さがあったという。 この仏塔を目にすれば、ランナー王朝の栄華がどれほどのものであったかをうかがい知ることができるだろう。

I stumbled upon this temple by accident. I had no clue it was there. I was just getting food at the market across the street, I turned around and there it was. Kind of cool. I guess it's pretty popular. Wat Kaew Korawaram is the biggest and most important temple in Krabi town and is second in popularity and beauty after the Tiger temple "Wat Tham Seua". It is very remarkable, and the people call it the White temple because on the outside it is dazzling white. Inside, the walls are inscribed with colorful frescoes depicting some stories from Buddha's life. Visitors are allowed to navigate through most of the site but some rooms you can only enter with the permission of the monks and priests, and some trails are only allowed to be walked by the monks during their meditation.

So we have seen a lot of temples throughout South East Asia but nothing compares to the White temple of Chiang Rai. . Honestly just the detail and beauty that goes into this is stunning. .
