From the desk of @angelicaleontynepugh Not really sure where to begin, but I knew I had a story to tell when I had to revisit all the things I tried so hard to forget and place them in a section of my mind that I thought I would never ever touch again. I didn’t realize that the memories that had haunted me would later come back to me in a way that actually saved me.  You see, I was always told that I was too pretty to have a care in the world and I was put on a pedestal that I never asked to be placed on. Therefore I depended on those validations from boyfriends, family members and later an ex-husband that in turn used my demons against me. I realize now that I should’ve tackled the memories instead of using them as chains and placing them around my neck.  I should have tackled them instead of hoping that the love I believed in would erase them all.  I was a girl that couldn’t truly grow up because I still lived in a place where my little girl memories still bothered me.  I think the moment that I decided to show everyone I wasn’t perfect and there was more to me than my looks, I think that’s when I started to make a lot of mistakes, and bad decisions. I must admit, I did that on purpose.  Maybe it was a test to see if the love that was given to me from some was unconditional love.  I purposely tore myself apart because I really wanted to figure me out.  I no longer wanted to know what others saw, but what I saw.  I wanted to revisit what I thought didn’t bother me and I wanted to finally let it all go.  I wanted to let go: a mother who abused drugs and abused me, who is now diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia; a father that left before I was even born to later appear, took a paternity test that turned out negative; men who abused their power and took advantage of me by either suggesting I offer sexual acts to get ahead or just openly admitting that if it weren’t for my looks and my body, I wouldn’t get far.
