Please comment, but I don’t want any fist fights over this post. I have wrestled for a long time with the Theory of Evolution. Currently I am convinced of natural selection, but I am not sure how far it goes. For example, I cannot believe that lightning striking a pool of amino acids resulted in a replicating cell. It seems worse than a bad joke. But, I’m not ruling out life starting from a single cell, because I can imagine God reaching down and planting a seed of a single cell that sprouted into life on earth. I simply don’t know how it all happened. The scientific literature is conjecture when you get to the point of origin, and the religious material is open to a lot of interpretation when it domes to the brass tacks of exactly how and when it all happened.
Beyond the scientific, which I am hardly qualified to engage with, there are the more serious social implications it has.
The theory has been used as a pseudo morality to justify genocide. It has from time to time been used to satisfy the dark side of our natures which religious living has meant to subdue. It has been cited in denying assistance to the poor, children to the outgroups, and even life to those who are deemed “unfit”. Students of the theory with better moral compasses have pointed out that cooperation and caring for those who are less able is built into the theory but these people find themselves in the same camp as genuinely good religious people who have to explain the terrible things done under their creeds.
I intend to continue the wrestle with the theory, and I am a little less worried when I remember that it is not up to me to single handedly solve the secrets of the universe, reconcile science and religion, and see the end from the beginning when the greatest minds in science have not yet been able to. I don’t have to give up the truth in the religion I practice or in the science I have studied, because one day they will converge and the errors in both will melt away.

The Christian life is one of trusting in Christ, struggling against sin and striving for the prize. There will be times of pruning, stagnation, and even regress. Yet over the full course of time, there will be advances in sanctification and fruitfulness will be evident.

James 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
Romans 1:18-25 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

If my salvation depended on myself, I would not be saved, of this I’m sure. Every part of salvation, from justification to regeneration (be ye holy) is a (supernatural) work of God. It is God who does the bidding, the calling and the drawing, the unveiling and the sealing. It is The Lord who does not let go of me, not the other way around. If one leaves, I believe, they never were saved to begin with. (They went out among us because they were not of us)
I believe in the promises of the Lord, and it is by His grace alone that He bestows them upon who He wills. Does the clay say to the One who forms, you can’t make me this way? No, for He shapes and He molds as He wills, and as Paul was convinced, so I concur, nothing, can separate us from that plan in Christ Jesus.
(Romans 8:31-39) Nothing Can Separate Us from God’s Love. What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else? Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for his own? No one—for God himself has given us right standing with himself. Who then will condemn us? No one—for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honor at God’s right hand, pleading for us. Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. And I am convinced that (nothing) can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, (nothing) in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
(Titus 3:5)He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy.
