Happy Monday! It’s the start of a new week, and I hope we can all start this week with a positive mindset. ⁣ ⁣ I’ve been very hard on myself the last few weeks, and I’ve realized I’m the only one causing myself this pain. No one else is. If a friend made the mistakes I made, I would hug them and comfort them. I would tell them we all make mistakes, we have to learn and grow from them. ⁣ ⁣ Remember to treat yourself the way you would treat your best friend. It all started with a caterpillar. Yup, that's right. My great-great grandpa immigrated here from Belgium. My great grandpa was just a little boy at the time. ⁣ ⁣ They originally started farming in Southern California, but unfortunately got stuck in a land buying deal that was used to trick foreigners. ⁣ ⁣ Once my grandpa figured out what was going on, he packed up his family in the middle of the night and left with nothing except their Caterpillar. ⁣ ⁣ It's pretty incredible what farmers have to fight against to stay farming, even today. And I am proud to call myself a Farmer and to be from a family who has fought for generations to keep doing what they love. ⁣ ⁣ I'm also proud to be doing a collab with CAT footwear. @beavervineyards ・・・ Right now I’m collecting anywhere from 3-8 eggs a day. ⁣ ⁣ I’ve had the worst beginners luck when it comes to chickens but I’m not giving up. Way to hang in there Anisa! Thanks to the keen eyes of @urbanapiariesrva we spotted the queen in my split hive, and saw brood in all stages! She made it! Now she just has to build out some comb, up bee numbers substantially, and store enough honey to make it through winter! . These bees are in a bee chain, called a festoon, they are festooning, and while lots of beekeepers think they know why they do this, we don’t actually have a scientific answer, and I like it that way.

I’ve always seen myself as a farmer first and everything else second (daughter, friend, partner, sister, mother etc). He texted this photo to me a few hours later and my heart just burst. My identity as a farmer couldn’t be stronger yet my identity as a mother held weight equally.
