Different day, same outfit. 6 months later. One has cancer, the other doesn’t. Riding such a high after I met with my surgical oncologist today who confirmed in person that everything was clear and she was impressed with how my healing process has gone so far, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t impressed as well...amazing what the body is capable of! Time to look forward at what is next with such a major milestone behind me. #mastectomy #thriver #findacure #chemotherapy #breastcancer #breastcancerawareness #wearesurvivors
“Being told you have cancer is not something anyone wants to hear ever especially at the age of 28.” Kate Reid @katejenniferreidx outlines the many unique challenges that come along with a cancer diagnosis at a young age. Her positive outlook and mindset is inspiring and we are honored to share her with you all for today’s #ThriverThursday:
Tell us about the day your life changed: “I was diagnosed on the 16th November 2018 with stage 2 ER+ PR+ invasive multifocal breast cancer.
I had a double mastectomy and implant reconstruction with a right underarm lymphnode clearance in December with a implant reconstruction. I’m currently undertaking 6 months of chemo and then will do 5 weeks of radiation.
It has changed my life in a number of ways, due to it being a hormone driven cancer I have to be on hormone therapy for a minimum of five years. I’m lucky I already have a gorgeous 5 year old boy.
I have had my eggs removed and frozen incase my treatments cause infertility. I have monthly injections of Zoledex which shut down my ovaries and basically my body thinks I’m in menopause.”
What makes you a THRIVER? “My little boy Lachlan, my partner Andy and my family. As crappy as this all is they are my inspiration to get through this chapter in my life, they need me and I have no intention of leaving them behind. Your family will always be there for you bringing you up even when they are down with you. It’s important to remain positive through this because as much as I’m hurting, the last thing I want to see if the people I love hurting.”
Advice or tips for others faced with adversity?
“As hard as it feels at the start, you just need to put down the sails and stop trying to be in control of everything and just stay afloat while your taken on this chapter through your life. A positive mind is crucial in keeping you strong ♥️.”

I’m a work in progress just like this tattoo on my back . I’ve had to find balance between inner demons and my creative side to keep moving forward. It’s hasn’t always been easy to look ahead . I’m a fighter , survivor no longer a victim of the physical abuse I endured that almost took my life .
It has forever changed me . It challenged me to view my mental health in a positive way , to use my pain to heal others ... it taught me to fight hard and never give up .
Life has a way of putting you on your purposeful path ... you know the saying ,”we make plans and God laughs” !
It’s never been so true as it’s been these past 3 years that I chose to open up an share my truth , my journey with everyone.
I was asked recently do I regret what I had to go through?
No I don’t , I had to go through it to be the person that I am today. Maybe the only small regret I have is that I waited so long to share my story.

I’ve been holding these words since last week. (Repeating them over and over)
.
.
The transition to chemo. Difficult. My body last weekend went to pieces and finally yesterday (second chemo) I started to feel better (thanks to two Zofran and some steroids)
.
.
Can I PLEASE shout out to ALL humans everywhere going through cancer treatment! Until you go through this...(which I hope you never do) you have no idea what is involved in the healing process.
.
.
Cancer brought me to my knees again this past week. Tears, begging for it to end already, and feeling so far from myself.
.
.
THEN, it subsides and I remember that I am not alone. I remember the countless women going through this that I admire so much on their journeys and how we ALWAYS hold on.
.
.
Thank you for this day. Thank you for another chance to get back up ❤️
2 weeks ago was my birthday and the day was incredible...I made it to 42 years old and I’ve never felt stronger. Cancer certainly changes your perspective on becoming older. I’ll take another year around the sun any day! ☀️
.
Today marks a year since my last chemo treatment. As I look at all the pictures from then to now, I smile, I tear up, and I swell with gratitude. So much L I F E has happened in a year. Many days cancer seems so surreal, yet I have the scars, the hair, the fear of recurrence, and the foobs to prove it. So many lessons learned, tears shed, laughter and personal growth.
.
Here’s what my 42 year old self would tell my 22 year old me about living my best life and how to show up as the best version of myself:
.
1. Listen to your body. You know your body better than anyone else, so treat it with respect.
2. Sleep is important. You need 8 hours to feel good. Go to bed early and fuel your body with rest. Social media can wait.
3. Mindfulness. Notice and be aware of your emotions, your triggers, and pay attention. When you’re mindful, you can then move toward self-compassion and figure out what you need to take care of you.
4. Food. Eat to fuel your body and eat clean. The cleaner you eat, the better you feel. You don’t *need* cheese as much as you think.
5. Exercise makes you feel stronger, physically and emotionally. It contributes to your mindset for the day. You can wake up at 4:30am for a 5am bootcamp class and still slay the day.
6. Gratitude. Making a daily habit to experience, look for, note, write down, and verbalize gratitude is life changing.
7. Laugh. Laugh a lot. Surround yourself with people you love and can make you laugh.
8. Don’t underestimate the power of community and support.
