Bukcon Hanok Village (북촌한옥마을), Seoul
.
@rkrkrk
.
Located between Gyeongbokgung Palace and Changdeokgung Palace, hundreds of Hanok (traditional Korean homes from Joseon Dynasty) lie embracing the history. There are restaurants, galleries, stores and more, but what really special about this place is that people are actually living there (that’s why touring this place with common sense is advised: no picture of inside of homes, no shouting, etc.)

Originally an overpass connecting western and central Seoul, this space near Seoul Station has now been transformed into the futuristic-looking Seoullo 7017, an elevated park and pedestrian walkway. Its name combines the year in which it was originally constructed (1970) with the year in which it was reopened as a pedestrian space (2017). 17 also signifies the 17 unique sections of the walkway, as well as the fact that it is located 17m above the ground.
Seoullo 7017 connects Namdaemun Market with Seoul Station Square and Malli-dong, offering views of some of the city's top landmarks. The walkway is lined with over 50 types of flowers and 228 tree species (all arranged in Korean alphabetical order!), earning it the nickname of Seoul's Sky Garden. The famous Rose Square is a particularly popular spot.
There are also playgrounds and art installations dotted throughout, as well as rest areas, information centres, and a variety of cafes and eateries.
Getting there: take Subway Line 1 to Seoul Station. Leave at Exit 2, turn right, and walk approx. 130 metres.

Ulleungdo Island (울릉도)
.
@thesoulofseoulblog
.
This iconic island is situated east of Korean Peninsula. It lies down 10km from east to west, 9.6km from south and north. The island offers amazing rocky scenery and cobalt blue ocean. Don’t forget to taste its famous squids.
.
There are four ferry terminals to Ulleungdo in the main land: Pohang, Donghae Mukho, Gangneung Anmok, and Uljin Hupo. It depends on the type of ship and weather condition, but normally it takes about 3 hours from the terminals to the island.
.
ℹ️ If weather doesn’t permit, you can’t enter the island so check the weather diligently.
