The Verve - Urban Hymns is up there in amongst the greatest albums of all times. I am a massive fan of the previous 2 but this was a huge step forward in my opinion. I am glad I managed to catch them live during this period, a band who were at their absolute peak! The band released Bittersweet Symphony in June 1997 which was then followed by The Drugs Don’t Work on 1st September. They then released the album itself on 29th September followed by Lucky Man. The band’s record label pressured them to release a 4th single in early 1998 so they agreed to release Sonnet as part of a set of four 12” singles which then made the song illegible for the charts. So I met Damon Albarn 6 years ago when I went to see Blur in Wolverhampton. He got on the same train as me and sat behind me and my family. Graham and Dave were there too but Alex James wasn’t on that train. After we got off the train I got a picture with them all out the front of the station. 6 months later I get a message from someone saying they saw me in a Daily Mail article. Turns out a paparazzi photographer thought I was Alex James and decided to take a photo of me with Blur and publish it in an article about Coachella. Now 5 years after that article I’ve met Damon again to show him that time I was the bass player of Blur. To say he was confused would be an understatement. Glad the guy who took my photo got a picture of his reaction. That moment was priceless

I don't generally have a habit of waking up the neighbours.  That's purely incidental though having more to do with my two young children :). But if I were to be alone at home and wanted to play loud then The Verve's 'Bittersweet Symphony' would definitely be a contender. The whole album really but especially Bittersweet Symphony. That song really is meant to blast at high volume while shouting along with Ashcroft.
