So, you think you want to be a zoo vet? Well, you are in for a rough journey. People will constantly put you down and tell you that your dreams are unachievable. Well I am here to say that they are only unachievable if you quit.
•
We never know what is going to happen in this life. Money is a made-up concept that governs many of our decisions. However, financial security is important for many of us and with the growing debt to income ratio among veterinarians, money and lifestyle have to come into consideration.
•
Maybe you are one of the fortunate who have not accrued student debt. Or maybe you will graduate with over $300,000 in student loans. We have to think about these things when deciding what career path to choose.
•
I once spoke with a veterinarian at the Georgia Aquarium who told me she had not even put a dent in her student loans. This is a scary concept for many of us out there. So, if you want to work in exotic animal medicine or zoo medicine, I do encourage you to think realistically about how you are going to financially support yourself and have the lifestyle you want.
•
It is not impossible to pay off loans on an exotic animal veterinarian salary; however, like most things it requires sacrifice and diligence. It might require working in a private practice that sees mostly dogs and cats with exotics on the side for a few years. You might consider pursing a residency in a specialty like Ophthalmology or Nutrition where you can consult with zoos and aquaria.
•
The thing is, if you are really good at something, you will get paid to do it. Stay motivated and keep following your heart. It will lead you where you are supposed to be, and it is possible it might not look the way you expected it to. Let go of the expectations and live in the in between. Life is happening now. Do what makes your heart happy.

Preparing for your doctor's visit
Before your appointment
Ask a #family member or friend to go with you for emotional support. Choose a time of day when you will both be well rested and at ease for your visit.
What to bring with you
Write down the following information to bring with you to your #doctor’s office:
Your symptoms, when they began, whether they have changed over time, and if there are things that make them better or worse
Prescribed and over-the-counter medications or supplements you are taking
Any personal and family medical #history that may be important
#Questions you would like to ask, such as:
What are the #tests I need to take and how long will it take to get a #diagnosis?
Would you advise me to see a specialist?
Which treatments are currently available for my symptoms? What are the risks and benefits and possible side effects?
What kinds of activities can I do to keep active?
What kinds of changes should I expect over the next six months or 12 months?
What can I do to lessen the side effects of my medication?
When should I come back for my next appointment? #grandmadaisyisms #dementia #fendi #mentalhealthawareness #nursebetty #hummus #cnalife #cnastyle #vetschool #vegas @realhelpva @grandma_daisys_healthy_tips @healingtouchcompanion
