Linda Darnell (1923-1965) keeping up with correspondence while wearing a lovely leopard print sweater . I have had the opportunity to read maybe 5 or 6 of Linda’s letters to her friends (I even have one in my possession) and her letters are warm, friendly, and generally full of apologies for not writing sooner. Though Linda was generally well liked by her costars, she famously shied away from the star studded party scene and found most of her close friends were just regular people...her former secretary, various artists, and her hairdresser were among her close friends. One thing that is obvious in her letters is her intelligence...every word spelled correctly, perfect punctuation, and, when not typing, her handwriting was impeccable. She was clearly a smart, articulate woman . #lindadarnell #monettamonday #oldhollywood #classichollywood #vintagehollywood #classicactress #vintageactress #oldhollywoodactress #classicbeauty #vintagebeauty #oldhollywoodbeauty #brunette #classicbrunette #vintagebrunette #oldhollywoodbrunette #brunettebeauty #brunettebombshell #letterwriter #leopardprint #leopardprintismyfavoritecolor

I’m going to tell you this one is a hard one! Yes I do have makeup on in this photo but I thought I’d post a photo (that would never usually make it on my page). Why you ask? I’m smiling. Not only smiling but a big wide toothy one. My gums are showing. I smile like my mom did. My eyes get squinty, my teeth aren’t fantastic, I get funny lines, and in photographs I feel kind of goofy. -
-
This is me in shoots! This is me BTS in acting! I’m a very silly, giggly, and an easily excited person. You can usually pick up my energy and read me like a book. I like going out of my comfort zone. It’s a rush! Here’s the au naturale Amanda. -

Cheers to the photos that sit and never get seen. This is for you! I will try to be better at that and to not be so critical. I am my worst critic. As we all usually are.

Wearing the tightest 1950s R&K Original wiggle dress in my closet. It hugs every curve and feels oh so right. Got this years ago at La La’s Vintage boutique. I shrunk it but now it fits. Fits better than it ever did. -

Day 1 of the #vintagefashionchallenge
Me in a nutshell. I’m Amanda. I’ve been married for 11 yrs and have 2 lovely kids. My family and friends are everything to me. I am a vintage brunette that raves about the mid 50s-mid 60s. I have had a strong connection to vintage my entire life. My lifelong obsession began when I was a teenager thrifting with my mom and realized how incredible vintage items were made, the effort put into them, and the fit was like wearing a glove. I am a vintage model and theatre actor. I think to where I have grown in the past couple of years and I feel extremely grateful of what I have been blessed with. I hope to be known as the “period piece actor” one day. -

I wear vintage daily and even at night. I am the vintage lady that rewears and photographs truevintageootd outfits over and over. My budget wouldn’t allow otherwise. Besides getting a lot of use out of something is extremely important to me. Practical, comfortable, and affordable vintage is my game. I hunt and hunt and have developed so many great friendships with the shops I buy from. Thank you ladies! -

May is also #mentalhealthawareness month and suffering from depression can be scary and feel like a never ending ball buster shit hell. I think keeping busy, doing things I love, and chasing my goals and dreams really have helped. Vintage modeling and acting have also really helped with my self esteem. To look in the mirror and be content with what’s looking back at me speaks volumes. I don’t feel like covering them up. I can feel comfortable with compliments but feel comfortable even giving myself compliments.

I feel like Linda Darnell (1923-1965) might have a case of the Mondays in the circa 1950 photo! Remembering actress Natalie Wood (1938-1981), who passed away 36 years ago today . Aside from Linda Darnell (1923-1965), Natalie is my favorite actress...I think she was absolutely brilliant in anything she did from childhood on. When she is on screen, I can not take my eyes off of her. My personal favorites of her films are “Love With the Proper Stranger” (1963) and “Splendor in the Grass” (1961)...she was just exceptional in both roles! I feel like for a long time Natalie was underrated and under appreciated for her talent, beauty, and style, but I LOVE to see that tide is turning. Her family has honored her with the namesake perfume “Natalie” (which smells phenomenal, by the way), they also participated in the amazing book “Natalie Wood: Reflections on a Legendary Life” by Manoah Bowman (a must have for her fans). I know as we go into 2018, which would have been Natalie’s 80th year, she will continue to be remembered for the magnificent star she was! RIP, Natalie ..you may be gone, but you will never be forgotten!!! #nataliewood #rip #gonetoosoon #gonebutnotforgotten #gonebutneverforgotten #oldhollywood #classichollywood #vintagehollywood #classicactress #vintageactress #oldhollywoodactress #classicbeauty #vintagebeauty #oldhollywoodbeauty #brunette #classicbrunette #vintagebrunette #brunettebeauty #brunettebombshell #star #starquality #theydontmakeemlikethatanymore

(Part 2 of 3..Continued from previous post..) As her career faded in the 1950s and she fell on hard times, Linda worked in television and in several touring theatrical productions...pretty much anything to make ends meet. In fact, she had just completed her first film in 8 years when she tragically passed away . Linda was married and divorced 3 times. Her first marriage was to cinematographer Pev Marley (1899-1964). The couple adopted daughter, Charlotte Mildred (nicknamed “Lola”) (1948- ), before divorcing in 1951 after a tumultuous few years. In 1954, Linda remarried to Rheingold Beer heir Phillip Liebmann (circa 1915-1972), though this marriage has been referred to as more of a business arrangement. Liebmann enjoyed taking care of Linda and the status of being married to a beautiful movie star. He, in turn, helped her establish a charitable home in Italy for teen girls left orphaned and homeless during WWII. The charity still exists today (at the time the charity operated under the already-established Boys Town of Italy, though today it is a sister organization called Girls Town of Italy), but the marriage only lasted a year and the couple divorced in 1955. Lastly, she married handsome pilot Merle Roy Robertson (1918-1965). This marriage had the promise to be successful, but it was not to be. Linda suffered from alcoholism and likely depression and she often spent days at a time in bed. Robertson tried to help Linda achieve sobriety, getting her into a rehab facility. At some point he allegedly had an affair and impregnated his mistress (he denied this and, honestly, I’ve never been able to determine what became of the mistress or the alleged baby). Friends and family stated later that they thought the couple’s marriage might have been salvageable, but that was not the case, and they divorced in 1963, after 6 years of marriage. Robertson would die of a heart attack just a few months after Linda’s death . (Continued in next post...)
