Train time! Catching up on the weekend’s festivities.
.
.
On Saturday we took the Grand Canyon Railway from Williams to the Grand Canyon. We took it last year, but this was a special event - the train was pulled by a steam engine.
.
.
I wore my new yellow linen dress (a 1949 pattern: McCall 8274). It has some great details. Big pockets, a matching belt, fun top stitching. And bonus, I totally matched the sunny, yellow train!
.
.
The train cars are a mix of ages. Our car, the Mary Colter, was from the 50’s. We spent some time walking through the carriages, down to the oldest car, a 1920’s Pullman. I must say, if you can swing it, the dome cars are the best. Great view, sunny, very pleasant. And it’s a two hour journey, so you might as well be comfortable.
.
.
Oh ya, and what’s a train trip through the west if it doesn’t get robbed?

View of Italian Design. The first modern piece displayed at the Triennale Museum was nothing but a Gio Ponti Visetta treadle machine circa 1948. Gorgeously designed. Sleek, modern and built to last. Saw multiple exhibits at the museum, this was a look back and the other I’ll post later was; Broken Nature- human impact and our collective effect on our. Atrial world. Museums are a must for whenever I travel. It shows a society at their best, what the group think is and teaches us so much. The more you learn, expose yourself to other cultures I think the more you see clearly. #gioponti #sew #vintagesewing #italiandesign
❤ My next batch of Kittydori traveler's notebook junk journals will feature these 3 pattern envelopes with images of little girls enjoying summertime! I love the one on the right with the girls holding cotton candy! Which one is your favorite?! Have a fantastic day!!

This #nightanddaydress from @laura.lindylook is so beautiful! Making the Square Collar and Yoke Skirt with a scalloped edge fabric is one of the suggestions in the design chapter, so I’ve been dying to see someone do it. Such beautiful work! #Repost @laura.lindylook with @get_repost

I wore my Night and Day Dress for the first time yesterday for the Fourth of July! I had a lovely time yesterday shopping with @missmagnolia_acb and hanging out with @jazzy.chalant.acb and @sputniks_vintage! About the dress: You can’t tell from this picture, but it’s a white embroidered cotton from Joann’s last season. It was lovely to wear and to make, with a little extra confidence from the class I took with @gertie18 in April. #fourthofjulyoutfit #nightanddaydress #joannfabrics #vintagesewing #imademydress #ocsews #charmpatterns #charmpatternsbygertie #handmadewithjoann
I’m starting on a new project which I’ve been planning for a long time.... a 1940s waistcoat! Sadly finding a vintage pattern in my size was impossible so I’m working with one that’s a couple of sizes too small and a modern simplicity pattern as a rough guide. Here is some of my inspiration. I love how the shoulders are wider than modern waistcoats. The mock up process starts tomorrow... wish me luck

Same blouse. Different skirt! .

Had a great time at Rod’s Steakhouse for dinner. We love coming here when we’re in Williams. We’ve been know to come two nights in a row I know it sounds weird, but my favorite thing on the menu is the liver and onions. I kid you not.

I was really happy to make this skirt in time for our trip. I was inspired by a very red, white and blue capsule wardrobe from a 1940’s (‘42 in think) Australian magazine. I used McCall 6927 to make the skirt. I had originally planned to wear it for a 4th of July BBQ, but plans changed. I think it looked delightfully western

This was my outfit to church today. My #b6318 mattress cover dress is a definite, new favourite as it is both comfy and becoming. And I have a new bag! It is SO cute. I feel so fashionable whenever I wear it. My outfit is topped off with clogs and tulle slip. I have started to believe that tulle is always a great addition. It’s subtle yet festive. One must wear tulle more often! Don’t you think so too?

Obviously this is #fashionfeelsfabulous in its most accurate way. I really do feel fabulous in this outfit. I’m planning on more versions of this pattern so I can feel fabulous with variety. Swipe for more fabulousness. @thestitchedit @untitledthoughts and @victorialucilleanne.

@sewover50 has a challenge to post vintage sewing. In my other post on this dress I’ve styled it more vintage like but this still works for #so50vintage #sewover50, right?

My dress is finally, finally done! I feel like a cross between Ann Margret, Brigitte Bardot and the oldest daughter in the Sound of Music Seriously though, this dress has been a great learning process and a pleasure to make. Thanks again to everyone who helped me with these pesky pleats. If you’re looking to make some of your own, @carbonchic has a new blog post up on double box pleats that’ll help get those creative juices flowing. Oh! And this fabric is from TheVillageCraft on Etsy. Definitely recommend. #designexperiments #1960sfashion #thehillsarealive
