Stoat - Kärppä - Mustela erminea The northern ermine sheds its brown summer fur on its back in the fall for a white winter fur. Only the tip of its tail remains always black. At the same time the papillae on the pads of the paws grow thicker. The white ermine is not only well hidden from its predators on the snowy ground, but stays possibly out of sight of the birds of prey prowling up in the air also. The far smaller female ermine, in particular, can easily stay out of sight totally, by entering into the snow tunnels dug up by small rodents. Pohjolan kärppä vaihtaa syksyllä selkäpuolelta ruskean kesäpukunsa valkoiseen talviturkkiin. Vain hännänpää säilyy aina mustana. Samalla kärpän tassunpohjien karvoitus tihenee. Valkoinen kärppä on paitsi piilossa varovaisten saaliseläinten katseilta, myös mahdollisesti yläilmoista väijyvien petolintujen silmistä. HELSINKI: One of the best parts of my stay at the @kamphotel in #Helsinki, was having complimentary access to the beautiful @kampspa. Particularly, after being out all day walking around in the cold, damp weather, there was nothing like coming back to a warm and relaxing sauna! . I’d also highly recommend a trip to one of Helsinki’s public saunas. We visited the @loylyhelsinki, an architectural masterpiece on the banks of the Baltic Sea, complete with Traditional Finnish saunas, and a restaurant, bar, and lounge.
