Are you looking to see the Orcas on your visit? We’re lucky to get regular visits in spring and summer giving people the opportunity to see them thrive in their natural habitat. Of course, we can never guarantee when or where they will pop up, but it makes it even MORE special when they do! We would highly recommend keeping up with @shetland_nature or booking a tour!

Isle of Skye
Getting really friendly with the locals up in the Sottish Highlands.
I'm always drawn to these guys whether it's in the Peaks or the Highlands and thought it'd be interesting to share some facts with you guys.
The breed's history is quite complex! Herd books of the past recorded details of two different types of Highland cattle; however, it seems that decades of crossbreeding have faded the lines between the two, leaving only one official Highland cattle type
Records also show that Highland is actually the oldest registered breed in the world, mostly due to the fact that their herd book predates all others
The Highland breed is predominantly used for beef production, but can be milked on a small scale. Their milk has a high butterfat content, which some farmers may find appealing
Interestingly, a group of Highland cattle is not called a herd, but a 'fold' instead Their coat is often the most discussed attribute of these cattle. When Highland cattle are mentioned, people often immediately think of their ginger-red coat. However, their colouring can vary between black, brindle, yellow and even white
Their hair is always long, sometimes reaching about 13 inches, with a slight wave. Since their coat is double-layered, the outer hair is oiled to prevent rain seeping into their skin, while the downy undercoat provides warmth during the rough rainy Scottish winters

St Giles Cathedral
Second picture from the trip to Scotland is my first attempt at a vertical pano.
I had this vision in my head for a while and wanted a striking cathedral roof to do it with. St Giles' Cathedral Thistle Chapel was perfect, as you can see.
The most striking part of this feature to me was the heron sigil at the top of the roof that was a biblical metaphor, it's right at the very top of the photo and depicts a heron biting out it's own heart to feed to its young.
The Thistle Chapel is the chapel of The Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle, Scotland's foremost Order of Chivalry. The chapel was conceived in 1909 and built in 1911 to designs by Robert Lorimer, at the south-east corner of the church. It is small, but exquisite, with carved and painted fittings of extraordinary detail. One figure depicts an angel playing bagpipes. The Order, which was founded by King James VII in 1687, consists of the Scottish monarch and 16 knights. The knights are the personal appointment of the monarch, and are normally Scots who have made a significant contribution to national or international affairs. Knights have included Sir Alec Douglas-Home, Lord Mackay of Clashfern and Sir Fitzroy Maclean.
Along the chapel's sides are the knights’ stalls. These stalls, which feature the knight's coat of arms on stall plates, are capped by elaborately carved canopies atop which are the knight's heraldic helm and crest. Unlike most other British orders of chivalry, the heraldic banners of knights do not hang inside the chapel itself but in a dedicated section within the cathedral.
