When in the Canary Islands I was so lucky to be received at Jonatan's winery Suertes del Marques, in Tenerife. His wines are produced organically from very ancient vineyards (some are older than years old! ) that lie on volcanic soils covered with sand or clay. The old vines are twisted and braided in a spectacular training system called "cordón trenzado". The main red grape variety used here is Listán Negro that Jonatan liked to "interpret" vineyard by vineyard, the same as Pinot Noir in Burgundy. Each vineyard showed its own fantastic peculiarities resulting in having more power and body or more elegance and finesse, always with a fantastic bouquet dominated by roses, red fruits, graphite ✏️ and green notes . In the mouth the wines are bright and vivid with a fantastic freshness, minerality and tannin power.
