The ideas that come to you while you are lying in bed... Autumn window luminaries ❤️ As I finished up my homeschool planning for the start of the next term tomorrow, my boys sat beside me and made these gorgeous autumn window hangings. I shared a video in stories and I had a lot of people DM me to ask how they are made ❤️ They are very simple! We collected autumn leaves and pressed them for a few days between some books. This morning the boys collected some thin, flexible willow and birch branches which they twisted into a round shape and secured with a little wrapped wire. To make the ‘leaf window’ they laid out a leaf design on wax paper (using the frame to make sure the leaves were in the right place) {photo 3}. Then they lifted the branch frame off and ironed a second wax paper sheet over the top, waxy sides together so they stick. Then they hot glued the frame to the wax paper luminary and cut around the edges to tidy up {photo 4 & 5}. Hung in the window the light shines through then like a stained glass window {photo 6}. For my lovely Northern Hemisphere friends, the same process can be done with pressed spring flowers to make a beautiful spring window design
With Jasper getting bigger and more mobile, I’m looking at bigger play structures for him. I love this one from camdenrose.com. I feel like you can create a special private little space for a toddler in there.

I’m observing that it can be a challenge to keep what I want for Jasper in check. I’ve also been itching to get him a large pickler ladder to climb on. I’m feeling now that two structures may be to much? I’m hoping to keep his spaces, clean simple and organized. That means less stuff!

So happy with how the dyes turned out! I used a combination of homemade botanical dyes and powders. I think the trick this year was that I used (swapped my neighbour some of our sweet corn for her white eggs - yay barter system!) a dozen super white eggs. We usually use our own hens eggs but they lay a light beige sort of colour which gives more muted colours when dyed. I washed the eggs first to remove any protective membrane and expose the ‘raw’ shell, and we dipped and dried them on and off all day. The dipping and letting them dry in between really seemed to intensify the colour

Gerard got the Way to Play king of the road set for his birthday last month and we’ve been having so much fun setting up different tracks for their cars!! We started off with the 16 piece set which was a great starter set to see what it was like and how much they used it, but adding this new set has totally transformed what we can do with it, and I’m loving watching Eleanor build her own creations now!
And then adding our first block set has been a total game changer too, I’m amazed at how much they love it without any prompting. Eleanor especially loves building with it and will easily go through the whole set, we almost need another one already!
These gorgeous toys are from @oskarswoodenark, and I’ll add a playroom tour to my stories so you can see what else is in the playroom at the moment
Thank you to Earthschooling.com member Kaitlyn Scruggs for sharing this great idea! She purchased wooden spice racks and instead of using them for spice bottles she uses them to store her math & weather gnomes! What a great idea! @sunandmoonhomeschool ———————————————————————-Are you using the Earthschooling.com curriculum and would like to share a classroom, main lesson book, handwork, or other photo with others? I’ve got the whoooole world ✨ in my hands! 5th Grade Geography is being needle felted from West to East towards India where we will topographically felt her mountains and rivers in ✨ to bring alive the stories we are reading! The stories contain so much about India’s climate and markets to bring in the economic aspects that grew out of the land. I will be sharing video of how we are making our own homemade 3D Topographical Globe (with wool from our fibers block) on the forum in Grade 5 ☺️ I leave you with Steiner on Geography: “The pedant will say: “It is natural first to study the geography of the immediate neighborhood and then, concentric with this, to extend the study on every side.” That, of course, is pedantry. There is no need to enlarge in this way. But when a foundation has been laid for an understanding of the connection between nature and human beings, another aspect can perfectly well be studied. Accordingly, you now pass on to some aspect from which you can develop as well and intensively as possible the economic relations between men and natural conditions.” Rudolf Steiner (Practical Course for Teachers Lecture) and another fav: “We must arouse the child's imagination in all we teach him, in all the lessons he has to learn during these years; all history, all geography teaching must be steeped in imagination.” ✨
