It has been a very busy week here at Penland. I'm trying some familiar woven structures in new materials, and it will be interesting to see the textural forms the various yarns create during finishing.
How I learnt
I began to learn how to weave at the Royal Academy of Arts #kabk in The Hague, during an internship with textile designer Helene Dashorst, and have been learning ever since.

Not my work! This tapestry was hanging in my bedroom throughout my childhood. Sometimes I wonder whether my passion for textile arts was spawned by my waking up to this lovely piece every morning. I have such gratitude for the impact this cat and bird have had on me. I’ve always known that the weaver’s initials were EA, but until today that was all I knew.... Reducing waste: Waste yarn from the leftover warp left on the loom once the woven cloth has been cut off is used to finish selvedges. Or woven back in as weft.
