WERE YOUR OBLIQUES ON FIRE
“What’s the best diet for weight loss?”
-
The best diet is the diet that you enjoy the most.
-
On some levels when I give that answer it feels super generic. Like some generic “follow your dreams” or “the early bird catches the worm” motivation cliche.
-
But it really is the technical answer.
-
The diet that you enjoy the most, will be the diet that feels the least like a diet, cos you enjoy it. And cos it doesn’t feel like a diet it takes little to no effort in keeping up with it, cos you’re actually having fun.
-
When you can stick to the diet, and be consistently in a caloric deficit, over time you’ll make progress.
-
The more progress you make, the more motivated you’ll be, and the more you’ll enjoy your current diet, and the harder you will stick to it, which gets you even more sustainable results over time.
-
Enjoying your diet also takes away the expiry period. If you enjoy it, why would you ever stop? You wouldn’t. Which makes you in complete control of your weight for life.
-
Enjoyment is the variable...
-
...or at the very least, you can’t hate it. Hating your diet is the first sign that it’s not going to last. Every ounce of energy doing something you hate will be put into looking for an exit plan. And when you’re constantly looking for an exit, it’s just a matter of time before you find it.
-
It’s possible to have a diet that includes your favorite foods, has a lot of nutrient rich whole foods, and consistently helps you progress towards your weight goals.
-
It’s super realistic but it takes time and effort to figure out cos it’s so personalized.
-
What’s best for you isn’t the best for me, what’s best for me isn’t the best for my family.
-
There is no one size fits all best diet, but there is a best diet for you. And it’s something only you could slowly figure out.
-
What are 2 things you love about your current weight loss journey?
Are you really in a weight loss plateau?
-
I remember the beginning of most diets during my morbidly obese days. There would almost always be some kind of drastic change. 1kg-2kg within 2-3 days. The feeling is always the same too initially, “omg omg it’s working!”
-
Due to the excitement I’d try to speed it up. I’d go harder at the gym. I’d skip a meal if I didn’t feel too hungry hoping to make the progress go faster.
-
It never did.
-
Progress slowed down instead. Perhaps in the first week I lost 1kg. Week 2 would go by and it’d be something like 0.3-0.4 kg. “Something’s wrong.’ I’d tell myself.
-
I’d treat the slow down of progress as a weight loss plateau. This would always be the beginning of my end. I’d go down this rabbit hole and eventually quit. All cos of what? Progress slowed down?
-
One of the questions I get a lot is “how to deal with plateaus?” 90% of the time when I ask more about the plateau I end up finding out that it’s not really a plateau. I mean:
-
1) Slower progress is not a plateau. Just cos you lost 3kg last month, and only 0.5kg this month doesn’t mean you’re in a plateau. You’re still making progress. How much, or how fast you lose weight isn’t something in your control. Focus on the things you can control, which is keeping to your diet & exercise as consistently as possible. You’re still inching closer & closer to your goals everyday.
-
2) Being inconsistent is not a plateau. If you haven’t been consistent with your diet/exercise in the past few weeks & your weight has stalled, it is not a plateau. It’s just being inconsistent. It might feel like you’re doing the same things everyday, but travel, parties, events they all make a difference to short term results. Thank Get back on track, and back to consistency.
-
3) Personally I consider a weight loss plateau as being consistent with diet/exercise for over 3-4 weeks but not even budging by 0.1kg. It’s possible, and yes it might mean you’re in a plateau. How do you get out of it? By increasing the caloric deficit either through diet or exercise. A mere extra 100kcal deficit is plenty to get things going.
-
Has it felt like you’re in a plateau lately?
My everyday breakfast for the past two weeks! This has really helped me control what I eat in the mornings. I do not over eat and only eat what I need to get through my work day!
•1st top Chia Seeds 65 cal (put in water and drink)
•2nd top shorty smoked sausages 130 cal
•3rd top raw cashews 180 cal and dry roasted almonds with sea salt 170 cal
•4th top organic goji berries 26 cal
•1 delicious red apple 75 cal
another #meatlessmonday going strong for breakfast I had a bagel and cream cheese (we are not surprised) and I used that protein shake as creamer in my thousands of cups of coffee. for lunch I had a spinach salad with a shit ton of yummy stuff on it, cheese quesadilla, and celery sticks with crunchy almond butter. yum yum yum yum yum yum .

Here is another one of the small changes that I promised I would share: I go to bed much earlier than I used to. This one is not actually hard to do- I don’t know about you but I am in need of some extra zzzzzz’s. While on maternity leave, I used to go to bed very late because the evening was my only “me time”. I also used to eat a lot during that “me time” which has obvious consequences. These days I am back at work so naturally I need to go to bed earlier and guess what- I don’t eat at 10:30 pm anymore and all of a sudden I have started losing weight. Funny how that works. #weightloss #weightlosstips #weightlossmotivation #postpartumweightloss #sleephabits #howtoloseweight #weightlossupport #weightlossjourney #weightlosshelp #healthyhabits #weightlossadvice
