The students and parents may already be in summer mode, but our amazing staff worked hard this week to wrap up the 2018-19 school year. They took a break from moving furniture, cleaning, planning for fall, and writing reports to work on our front entrance mosaic! We could never thank our staff enough for all the work put in to help our school thrive.

Here’s a branch of snowy May, a branch the fairies gave me.
Who would like to dance today with a branch the fairies gave me. Dance away, dance away, holding high the branch of May.

I know we say this as a reminder to our students who are forced to take these ridiculous tests, but let’s pause and say it for ourselves, too.
The test is not an end all determination of your ability to teach. The test is not the end all to your ability or your students’ ability to succeed in life. The test is not a document that can determine if the students understood the standards (especially if the the test had questions that are not at grade level and are not relevant to kids). Just know, you are amazing.
Take a breath and enjoy the last month or two with your learners. Know that you are amazing. The test can not determine all the relationship, care, lessons, after schools, meetings, tears, hugs, laughs, learning, connections, growth, meetings, stress, celebrations, and more that you and your kids had through this year. Love yourself and celebrate their awesomeness as this year comes to an end. #notatestscore #wholechildeducation #awesometeachers
We need to normalize talking about emotions!! As we continued our emotion discussion, our class put actions, words, descriptions and colors to describe multiple types of emotions. My kiddos then pulled from these words to create poems around an emotion they chose.
It is so important to share, discuss, and normalize all emotions. It is vital that we discuss mental health and let kids know how we adults maneuver our own emotions. From books to articles to happenings in the classroom, there are multiple opportunities to discuss emotions and normalize that conversation. Let’s continue to look for ways to teach the whole child, not just academics. #socialandemotionallearning #wholechildeducation
Let them get dirty!
•
It’s too easy to say “No, not in the puddle” but man they can have so much fun playing in a good old mud puddle
•
I literally had to rinse him off with the hose before his bath that night, but the smile on his face was totally worth it!

It is so vital that we, as educators, include discussions of emotions, how to think of them, and what our body is telling us when our emotions hit us.
Last week and continuing this week, we are thinking of all our emotions. We discussed how all emotions are okay, that it is our body communicating something, and that there are actions we can take when our body is telling us this.
When we teach, it CAN’T just be academics. We must talk about, include, and remember our learners are growing, emotional human beings. We must think about and teach to the WHOLE child. We must think of how to remove the taboo of talking about our emotions so that our learners grow up with an understanding that emotions, all of them, are a part of us. Thank you @littlejusticeleaders for the helpful discussion prompts! #socialandemotionallearning #wholechildeducation
Education in the matrix (except maybe where people are genuinely trying to tell the Truth to the children like Montessori etc), is weak and inefficient in my perspective.
I am not excited about education in schools and colleges cuz mostly it is mechanical and left brained as fuck. Again, I am talking about the average Indian school and not just a few rich schools integrating art and music as a part of their education. .
Being jobless, homeless, penniless gave me real education. Gave me soul, gave me strong survival skills, adaptability skills (that's always a work in progress though) , made me deal with FEARS, opened my chakras, upped my EQ.
.
We gotta teach our children about their minds, how to live with minimal resources, strengthen their intuition through meditation techniques, teach them about chakras and breath, give them tools to manage their anxiety, there has to be a whole subject on SELF LOVE.
