Widdershins is a town populated by wizards, necromancers, merpeople, vampires, librarians and other assorted creatures. They say the town is sentient and knows it’s own, drawing the strange and unusual to it. Percival Endicott Whyborne spends his days studying dead languages at the museum where he works. His husband Griffin is an ex-Pinkerton turned private detective. The two of them, along with the famous lady archeologist Dr. Christine Putnam, solve mysteries of a supernatural nature in Victorian era America. This series is so much fun. The last book is coming out this summer and I’m sorry to see it come to an end. When I saw today’s prompt #loveisloveislove I knew exactly which books I wanted to feature. Today some thoughts about ‘left’. I noticed that many traditions take in account in which direction a movement is made: clockwise or counter-clockwise. I came to understand that this often has something to do with the purpose of the action, for example when stirring something. If you want to invoke you go clockwise, and if you want to banish something you stir counter-clockwise. This brought me to the question where this rule originates from. Surprisingly enough most information I found involved the devil. It is said that the devil always avoids the right side of someone or something. Thus the left side has everything to do with ‘evil’, something you want to get rid of. In folklore many stories about this can be found. For example: if you spill salt, throw some of it over your left shoulder to prevent something bad from happening. If you think the devil is following you, always look over your right shoulder, or else the devil will slap you in the face. Like myself, my father is ambidexter, however he has a slight preference for writing with his left hand. In his youth (the 50s) at school he was forced to write with his right hand. This makes me wonder if this also had something to do with superstitions about bad things and the left side. In Western esotericism the path of so called ‘black magic’ magic is also called ‘left hand path’. The assertion that the left hand path is a synonym for evil magic has also been criticized, for example by Satanists, about whom a lot of misconceptions exist. If you have any additions or thoughts about this, feel free to share them. ♠

Lecture en cours... .

. ☞ Et vous vous connaissez ? . Bonne journée ! ⭐️ . #bookaddict #bookstagram #widdershins

I remember the first time I saw one of these things. I asked my Grandpa one Summer in 1990 what it was and he told me that it was a Crawfish hole. Some of y'all might not know this...even though I only moved here a year ago, I do have some history in this area. Both of my maternal grandparents were from the area that stretches between the Florida panhandle, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana coast line. They retired an hour west of here in a town called Lake Charles, Louisiana. I spent a lot of Summers there between the ages of 10-16. Pictured is a Crawfish Chimney. And yes, a Crawfish does live in it about 3 feet or so below the surface. This one showed up in our backyard this week. They pop up in coastal areas of LA, in particular after a big rain. There are many therories on why they build these mounds, the two prevelant being predator protection and oxygen. Crawfish totem is energy for working in between. As above so below. In Native American Osage creation mythology, Crawfish play the role of Earthdiver, the small but brave creature who retrieves mud from the bottom of the primordial ocean so that the Earth can be created. They make these mounds by moving the mud up and down the tunnels. Even when they swim Crawfish move through the water back-first. Crawfish totem magick lies in places of finishing what you started. Walking backwards. Dancing back to back. Reciting prayers in reverse. To Crawfish is to work Widdershins. This is the well-known Witchcraft technique of inversion: raising power by doing backwards what is usually done forwards. It's about finishing something you started. Coming back to revisit past trauma or pain so you can move forward. Or coming back to rectify whatever has been left unfinished✨↩️

Widdershins. Adverb. In a direction contrary to the sun’s course, considered as unlucky; counterclockwise. The Whyborne and Griffin series is set in the fictional town of Widdershins. It is said that Widdershins knows it’s own; meaning it draws the unusual to it. The town is populated by all sorts of characters: wizards, vampires, merpeople, lady archeologists and private detectives. Such a fun series!
