This trap took me about 10-15 minutes to set up. It was really easy and fun to practice...

Sharpened car key arrowhead. This seems like something you might have in your pocket, but make sure you can still start the truck when you eventually find your way back to the parking lot.
I believe this is officially called a transverse point; where the leading edge is either a straight or curved cutting edge. I had seen pictures of stone points like this and always wondered how well they would work. @will_lord_prehistoric_survival recently posted a video testing one of these on a deer carcass that I’m reposting with the video post that accompanies this one, so go check that out to see a guy who actually knows what he’s doing when it comes to this stuff.
It only took about fifteen minutes to grind the top edge of this key down to a decent edge using sand and a flat stone. I may have been able to put a better edge on it with more patience but I got it to the point where it would carve wood and figured that would do the job on small game.
I figured I’d save some time mounting it to the shaft by using the toothy portion of the key itself to drill out a cavity to accommodate it, but that meant picking a thicker piece of maple than I would have otherwise chosen; which led to an arrow that was too heavy for one of my old bows.
The arrow itself didn’t fly all that well, but the point held up great and held it’s edge after a half dozen shots, despite denting itself into the convex shape that is often seen in stone points of this type. I initially planned on pounding a house key into a more conventional shaped point, but I found this old Toyota key first and figured I’d embrace the shape.

This is not a constant. The angle of refraction varies based upon the angle of Incidence. Solutions: Drop a stone and lower your spear until you touch it to get an idea on what angle to use, or use a protractor. -->>> Follow us for best survival posts and info on IG!
