What a morning, what an experience! As you know I’m currently in the Flinders Ranges of South Australia experiencing all things outback. Once I arrived and started to do my research I discovered that loads of people that come here come to hike and experience the outdoors. Although I’ve been hiking more lately I have never attempted a difficult hike in the dark by myself and frankly the thought terrified me. So I decided to hike this trail in the daylight to check it out and if I liked it, think about doing a sunrise hike. Of course the views were out of this world and I tentatively set my alarm for 3:40 AM the next morning to try for the sunrise. This is Mount Ohlssen- Bagge, classed as a “difficult” hike of around 7.6 km round trip. I set off from the Wilpena Pound Visitor Centre at 4:30 AM in the pitch black and it took me 1 hour 45 minutes to reach the top. My efforts were rewarded with one of the most stunning sunrises I’ve ever seen in my life, with unseasonal cloud and color. We’ve seen some amazing #sunrises and #sunsets this week, but those prepared to put their alarm clocks (and bodies) on the line for a spectacular colour show have snagged some pretty incredible memories. Our mate @laurenepbath did exactly that when she set her alarm for a 3:40am rise in the #FlindersRanges before taking the 6.4km (1hr 45min) hike to summit Mount Ohlssen Bagge. As Lauren recalls, “My efforts were rewarded with one of the most stunning sunrises I’ve ever seen in my life, with unseasonal cloud and colour.
