Il Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG CARAPACE è ottenuto da uve 100% Sagrantino, selezionate nell’ambito del Progetto Patriarchi (Istituto Agrario San Michele all’Adige) dai vigneti storici di Tenuta Castelbuono, Bevagna (PG)...un vitigno unico sorprende per la morbidezza.

CARAPACE is the Umbrian Winery of LUNELLI, created by Arnaldo Pomodoro, sculptor and goldsmith, who, to insert the building in the hilly context where the vineyards grow, conceived a majestic dome, covered with copper engraved by cracks, like furrows in the earth.
After 6 years of work, with the technical aspects taken care of by the architect Giorgio Pedrotti, the result is a fantastic work, on the border between sculpture and architecture, a shell like a turtle, symbol of stability and longevity, a treasure chest that contains art, nature and wine!
Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG CARAPACE is made from 100% Sagrantino grapes, selected from the Patriarchi Project (San Michele all'Adige Agricultural Institute) from the historic vineyards of Tenuta Castelbuono, Bevagna (PG)...a unique vine that is surprisingly soft.

Yesterday was the opening of @eatalyparis (more in my stories). My wife and I are huge fans of Eataly! I really appreciate its philosophy and manifesto. Oscar Farinetti, Eataly’s founder, is a true believer of slow food and vino libero. He also happens to own a few wine properties, including Borgogno and Fontanafredda.

We queued for 1h30. Someone said behind us "You got to be Parisian to wait for so long to eat". We’re usually not that patient but we made an exception .

I chose a calzone, which I hadn’t had for years. But I knew it would be delicious there. And I was right❗️I paired it with a glass of 2017 Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore from Villa Bucci. Very round and full-bodied. A good wine for pizzas. We had a really nice time! .
The service was a bit hectic. You can sense that their processes aren’t yet in place but on the day of opening this is quite understandable.

The market was closed so we couldn’t explore it. We went to their cellar . They have a very nice wine selection with hundreds of Italian references.

Harbison cheese with lemon madeleines. It's on the menu "for two" but there's no judgement for one. It's kind of the perfect afternoon for this with an Americano coffee ☕️. Lunch from 12:30 - 2:30 today, then dinner starts at 5:30.

Another stunner by Gary Farrell! Lancel Creek is one of the heavier Pinot Noirs I have had from them. Dense flavors of black cherry, pomegranate, cardamom, with a vanilla finish. Was not overly earthy to us, but did have some floral notes and even a hint of mint leaf. A glass of this wine was the perfect way to relax after a long work week!
