A few years ago, Phil and I got to hang out with this amazing couple! You may know @kirkcameronofficial and his lovely wife, Chelsea, from the hit TV series, "Growing Pains," where they met and fell in love. Or you might know Kirk from the movies, "Left Behind" or "Fireproof." He is a smart, witty, warm, kind, talented brother-in-Christ, and Chelsea is the best thing that ever happened to him!
.
This week, Kirk joins me on the #413Podcast and, girl, he has encouragement for you and your family. Sometimes we can feel overwhelmed, tired, and like some of the relational challenges we face are too much. Listen in as Kirk shares how you can do both a personal and a family reset.
.
If you need to pause and start over, or your family is currently in shambles, or your marriage is needing a little refresher, there's hope!

There’s definitely a lot of value to listening to so many “experts” out there. But the older I get, the more I know that there’s also a ton of value in listening to my gut and doing what really feels right to me, because oftentimes “expert” advice doesn’t coorelate and match the day to day REAL human experience. I AM NOT SAYING DON’T LISTEN TO EXPERTS. I am simply it’s also important to balance it all with our own personal needs.

When we started our podcast, I was told that my social media platforms need to look really pretty. There should be an aesthetic there that draws followers and makes people want to be a part of our beautiful and well-crafted experience. Well, as you can see, my account visually looks like it’s run by a toddler. But guess what? People still came, because they value the realness of what we’re doing here, and because there is no one right way to do anything! Thank goodness I didn’t listen and trusted in my gut that if I did what felt right to me, people would see that and still want to be here.

“Expert” charts at the doctor’s office and in books say that I’m around 20-25 pounds overweight. For a long time this really bothered me, and I fought hard and deprived myself a lot to fit into those numbers that deemed me “normal” or “healthy.” But at the same time, I was running, eating healthy foods (and plenty of indulgent foods, too) and felt really good! So, I’m still 20 pounds overweight. I go out to dinner and just enjoy food because I love it so much, and I am no longer trying to fit into a chart that takes nothing other than numbers into account. I am more than just a number. Is this the right way for everyone to do it? Not necessarily. But it works for me, so I’m trusting my gut that It’s ok, and I’m happier overall for it.

There are hundreds of other things I’m doing in my life that are the “wrong way” accoding to many out there. I’m trying hard to follow my own path and damn is it hard when at every turn someone is telling me to do it differently. Authenticity is so much harder than it seems. But at the end of the day, I’m the one who has to live in my body and walk the path I’ve created. So, I need to make sure it works for me.
It's official -- I conquered my fear of being on a podcast!!
