Do you illustrate characters/places from your own books? _____________________________________________________ I love sketching characters, places etc. that play a role in my book. Just having a face for a rather abstract person or location is so creatively stimulating! Sometimes I think you need to sketch e.g. a map from a fictional city/building just to prevent logical errors and plot inconsistencies. But tbh most of the time I just do illustrations because I love drawing and it’s so much fun to get to know the world you’ve created on this much more tangible level. So, what about you? ✍ ten SATURDAY! DO YOU WANNA STOP WRITING A LITTLE AND READ A GOOD BOOK? ͎ Let’s pause #nanowrimo a little. Writing shouldn't be stressful. So, if you’re behind on schedule and you’re getting nervous about it. Pause. Breathe. Go take a walk around the block, go to the gym, whatever you feel like doing right now, do it. I’m gonna read a good book. ͎ Now, the real question is, WHAT MAKES A GOOD BOOK FOR YOU? ͎ g o o d r e a d s For me, is the one that makes us feel or be teleported to the story or to the words. Even a non-fiction book can do that. If the author is smart, they can grab our attention from “According to...” to “This is why...”. It’s just a matter of using words to captivate the reader. ͎ No, a good story doens’t have to have a beginning, a middle, and an end. It doesn’t have to have a goal, mid points, plot points, turning points, or any point! It helps, but the book or the story just have to grab you and glue your eyes to the pages with super glue and make you feel. Elicit emotions and senses. You’re in New York City, listen to the crowd, be blinded by the lights of the Times Square billboards, smell that amazing bittersweet smell of street food that only New York City has, feel the cold of the Big Apple’s winter, walk among it. Feel the pain, the joy, the fear, the whatever feeling the character has because the author is good in provoking that on you. ͎ SH*T. I feel like writing again...
