“Kinvara Sunrise” - Galway Bay This was the most unexpected & memorable sunrise I’ve ever witnessed. Lady luck was certainly on my side this particular morning in the small village of Kinvara. I remember looking out from my motor home window at 6.15 am and seeing this sun rising from behind the historic Dunguaire Castle, whilst casting its warm golden light across the entire Galway Bay. Wasting not a single second I grabbed my camera gear & stumbled out the door. Still half asleep in my pyjamas with no shoes I ran onto the pier to capture this image before this magical light defused. I always think on the lyrics of this wee song when I look at this photo "If you ever go across the sea to Ireland, Then maybe at the closing of your day, You will sit and watch the moon rise over Claddagh And see the sun go down on Galway Bay"

Snowfall on The Ancient Ring Fort of "An Grianan of Aileach” You may have noticed that this winter I have been visiting all my favourite historical monuments to capture them dressed in white snow. ‘An Grianan of Aileach’ was the next target on my snow radar. Yet after already visiting & failing 2 times prior due to unfavourable flying conditions, I just knew this old fort was going to stubborn once again! Mainly I needed snow of course & because it stands high on a hill top, some thaw was also needed to ensure I could drive near to it. Lastly there had to be great light with no wind or rain. Yesterday all seemed to fall into place except for the light ☹ Regardless of the dull weather I sent my drone into the sky & within 10 minutes a storm approaches. High winds & sleet are forcing me to land but I hang on as i'm determined not to fail this time again! Eventually the clouds open behind me letting a perfect beam of light shine over the fort for just a moment…. Nature can be such a tease at times! But finally lets me capture my once visioned snow scene. The mystical & magical seat of power were once Kings & Queens of Ireland reigned from. An Grianan Aileach is the best known monument in Inishowen & easily one of the greatest in all Ireland. Situated along Donegal's Wild Atlantic Way on a hilltop 800 feet above sea level the view from Aileach is breathtaking. The fort was first constructed around 1700 BC (probably with earthen walls) by the Tuatha de Danann. It has been ascertained that it was the Palace of the Northern Princes, from a period long before Christianity (AD 400) up until the 14th century. Legend states that the giants of Inishowen (Princes of Aileach) are lying sleeping but when the sacred sword is removed they will spring to life reclaiming their ancient lands!

“The 2018 Blue Super Moon” I’m sure you have already noticed that during last night, many photographers, astronomers & everyone else from all over the world were on a frenzy over the big rare special moon! Its been ages since I’ve captured a good old Astro photo, so last night I decided to “join the herd” & this is my take of this once in a lifetime moon over Ireland! This full “Super Blue Moon” may look like any other full moon & I agree it does but surprisingly it is the first time in 150 years that this has happened! It is called the ‘Blue Moon’ not because of the colour but simply on the fact that it is the second full moon in a month. ‘Super Moon’ refers to the moon being as close to earth as its been in many years which makes the moon 7% larger & 15% brighter. Considering it's already 250,000 miles away, every inch closer is welcomed by photographers Last night’s moon viewed in other countries was actually a 'Super Blue Blood Moon' due to a lunar eclipse turning it blood red. Although due to Ireland’s placement we couldn’t witness the lunar eclipse phenomena, so unfortunately it didn’t turn red for us ☹ But we still got the ‘Blue & Super’ part! so I guess 2 outta 3 ain't bad

“Atlantic Oyster Harvest” Canada or Iceland during winter? No this was captured only a few days ago right here in Donegal from the stunning area of Carrickfinn overlooking the iconic Errigal Mountain. Errigal is the tallest mountain in County Donegal. She is the absolute pride & symbol of the county. With bright silver coloured rock flowing down each side like a stunning gown, she is quite unlike any other mountain in all of Ireland. Today “Miss Errigal” is snow-capped & showing off once again all dressed up in her white dress for us ‍♀️ In this scene you can see the oyster farmers hard at work gathering in their harvest as swiftly as they can during low tide before the cold atlantic waters come back in with high tide. What I love about mussel harvesting is that the Irish have been skillfully doing it for thousands of years with virtually unchanged methods (excluding tractors). I sat here for ages just watching & waiting for these gentlemen to drive their tractors into a suitable position for me to get this shot! During the wait I started thinking on how great for the soul it must be to be standing out there on a sunny day with a fresh sea breeze on your face in the shadow of Ireland's most stunning mountain. Some folk will disagree although I can tell you that in my own opinion, it beats sitting in a noisey stuffy office all day staring into a plain painted wall. Hand me an oyster basket with wellies anytime over a bundle of paperwork & a tight tie
