SWIPE to see her before photos!... These are the before/after photos that correspond with the bleach retouch technique shown in my story from earlier!... This lovely client of mine had been maintaining her platinum locks for the last 2 years with me since her initial transformation. However, about 3 months ago, she decided to go for a more balayaged look; to achieve that look I created faux roots for her by applying a root melt. She rocked the deep, shadow root for a while, but decided to go back to platinum ! Despite the fact that I used Demi-permanent color on her roots over the last couple months to create the faux roots, and they faded quite a bit, this is still a form of permanent color and the darker the pigment- the harder to remove! She had 3 zones of color within the first 4-6 inches of her root/midshaft area that needed to be lightened, zone 1 (closest to the scalp) was about 1 inch of level 7 virgin regrowth, zone 2 was the darkest zone in the middle-with the most build up of residual color (the hardest area to lift), and zone 3 was the faded, area that melted into her platinum midshafts, which was the easiest, but most vulnerable part to lift. Extra care needed to be taken to lift all 3 zones, however, zone 3 was the most sensitive, because the color that needed to be removed in that area was sitting on previously bleached hair (sometimes you can use a simple color remover to get these bands lifted out, however, in her case it needed a little more lift than what color remover can achieve). ... This is why the photo I posted in my story demonstrated that I applied the lightener to zone 2 first all over, leaving out zones 1 and 3, let that process until the desired level of lift was achieved, then rinsed and performed a second application with a very low developer on the root area (zone 1), after I finished applying the lightener to zone 1, I then went through and applied a light layer of lightener to zone 3 to bump out that layer of faded color. Sometimes the desired look is something more subtle, natural, and warm in tone-like this look! It’s also slightly less maintenance, because color was used rather than bleach and so the issue of the toner (inevitably) fading isn’t a factor any longer. While not everyone has a foundation that makes them a candidate for this type of service/color, if they do, it’s a great way to create a natural, warm, low maintenance look! Balayage transformation She wanted a more vanilla-beige tone, not too warm and not too cool.
