I have had some great experiences and met many of the Wine Gods and Goddesses of the World but I think I met Baccus himself last night in disguise as the Legendary and Infamous Christian Moueix of Petrus and Dominus to name a few! And only one place could host such a great God and that would be Olympus AKA “Strip Steak” in the glorious Fontainebleau Hotel. And only one man could put this together ...but of course the Guru of Greatness and the Master of all good that is imbibed or digested at all of their amazing restaurants and bars yesssss the incomparable John Riccardo! So Baccus ooops I mean Christian not only cares of tradition and making the highest quality wines but the environment is high on his priority list as well. He does not irrigate so not to waste millions of gallons of water a year and wants the roots to grow deep to express the real terroir not grow back upwards to the top of the soil when irrigated (see the pic). The 98 La Fleur Petrus as well as all the wines were shipped directly from Christian’s cellar weeks in advance and laid to rest before this once in a lifetime evening! The Food was to die for as usual and more than stood up to the soft and sensuous yet powerful lineup of magnificent and historic wines. I will of course talk more in depth on the individual wines and the pairings in one of my next posts. (1st time I’m opening up about this) My 2nd stroke was when I was 30 on a girls trip to Miami (I’m 36 now). I was laying by the pool at @fontainebleau & Suddenly the symptoms of dizzy, slurred speech, numbness on one side, & face droop hit me. What I didn’t know was how this experience was going to change my life emotionally forever. After a stroke, your entire life changes.. sometimes the change is your friends.. .. .My “girls” left me. Not like “haha they left”, they ACTUALLY left me in Miami w.out EVER coming to see me. They also TOOK A PICTURE of me getting on the stretcher. My dad flew down to pick up my luggage & be by my side. It was devastating. I have not talked to any of those girls since & I’ve never been happier.. .. .I recovered physically but emotionally it took a while & a lot of therapy. I’m happier now & feel sad for them. I genuinely hope they or nobody experiences friends walk away when you need it the most.. .. . The #fontainebleaumiami was incredible.
