My dress has been a total diva pain in the neck this week; she had one idea about how the waist pleats should look I had another: she won . No doubt our next drama will be her opinion v mine about sleeves! Just a few highlights from our visit to the St. Louis Art Museum. It was an impromptu visit since an outdoor picnic wasn’t going to work with all the rain! Fortunately it cleared up in the afternoon and we had our picnic near Art Hill #18thcenturysewing #18thcentury #sewing #seamstress #tailor #georgian #regency
Finally feeling inspired! I bought the silk taffeta for this dress mostly because it was v cheap and there was enough yardage. I liked it but didn’t loooove it and have been secretly feeling I made a mistake but woo hoo! Yesterday I found the right complimentary fabric that makes my original choice look more purple and less taupey. Now I’m excited and inspired again. Phew! The paler fabric while you can’t tell here is an amazing pink shot with black. Could only afford a small amount but the front skirt panel and the stomacher in it will make all the difference!. Oh and thanks to all who helped me choose which hoops to use. Once I made the under petticoat and saw the shape, you were all correct!!The pocket hoops on the left of my previous post won the day

The 11th day of #GeorgianDay, #colorful! Here is a robe à la française from around 1760. The first women to wear these gowns, from around 1720 through 1780, were often considered coquettish, maybe because of how outgoing the robe à la française was in comparison to the robe volante, for example. However, this style gained a ton of popularity because of the silhouette, which allowed for expansive amounts of textiles (many with Rococo decoration). The wide skirts, supported with panniers made form cane, baleen or metal, were often open at the front to show off a decorated underskirt. This robe à la française has the popular box pleat around the skirt and beautifully colored textiles.
