First week in Portland, Oregon finished! Although I am here on business, it has been an amazing experience getting to know everyone at the HQ! Definitely missing home and my better half, but Portland is so similar to home in so many ways. Here’s to another week!

This little gathering at Dayton International Airport is not what it seems. You see, this band of dreamers aren’t actually traveling anywhere. On Saturday nights, back in 1961, this gang of friends would dress in their best outfits and gather in the airport lounge to watch American Airlines’ brand new jets take flight while sipping Whiskey Sours and gossiping about their well-to-do neighbors. Darlene (second from left), is just about to reveal her neighbor Sarah has just had plastic surgery that has got her looking perpetually frightened. Erica (far right) is spilling the beans on her stock broker neighbor, Mark Farrington, and his love affair with another man at the Pheasant Hill barber shop. And the men, who claim to “never gossip”—they enjoy every scandalous word with delight. No one on the security team has caught on that they don’t have real flights to get on, and are merely pretending to be world-class travelers, so they tempt fate every week. On Monday’s, the band of long time friends all goes back to their perfectly ordinary lives — the men to the Five Oaks Sanitation department, and the women to the cosmetic counter at the nearby Woolworths. I guess they can be whomever they want and dream that suburban “American Dream.” When they’re at the airport lounge, on flight 707 to nowhere, all bets are off!
