This Firefighter Hero WOD is dedicated by 555 Fitness @555fitness to Manuel Mojica, FDNY, Squad 18, who was killed on September 11, 2001.  Manny Mo was a confident, low-key guy with a big heart, a king of the backyard barbecue, Firefighter Floody said. Perhaps because Firefighter Mojica, 37, was the middle child between his sisters Vinia and Letty, he was a natural peacemaker. So when Squad Company 18 of Manhattan, a rescue unit, went to a call, he calmed the frightened.  Manuel Mojica Jr. loved being a New York City firefighter, and the 37-year-old Bellmore resident was on duty, as usual, the day two planes struck the trade center. He was among the first to arrive, his wife, Anna, said. "He was a courageous man," she said. "He wouldn't turn his back on anyone."  Mojica loved being with his family and going to the gym, she said. The couple had been married for 10 years and had two children. "He was a beautiful man," she said. "He was a loving father and husband. Last firefighter workout: As many rounds as possible during one bottle of air: 1 round= One lap around the fire station (200m), 2 times up and down the tower (5floors). . Had a perfect end to the workout! With only a few bar left on the top of the stairs, I really had to focus on my breathing to make it all the way down without ripping off my mask. Perfect training! . What’s up you night-walkers? I’ve touched on the negative side affects of working the night-shift in the past. But I feel I never really touched on ways to help you adjust to the schedule that goes against our bodies natural circadian rhythms. Although not ideal, you can retrain your body to make it work, but it has to be done correctly. . Tip 1. If possible, try and transition slowly. This will give your body time to adjust. Your family plays a key role in this in working with you and adjusting their lifestyle as well. . Tip 2. Avoid Caffeine the 2nd half of your shift if your goal is to get out of work and go right to sleep. . Tip 3. When you are off, try to get outside and spend some time in the sun. Go for a walk, exercise outdoors, or just hangout outside with your family/friends. This could help give your body some of that ever so important vitamin D it needs. . Tip 4. Your bedroom environment is huge. Try to keep your room cool. Make your room as dark as possible (most recommend blackout shades). Either make your room as quiet as possible or get a white noise machine/fan, etc. . Tip 5. Last but not least. Turn OFF your cell phone or put it down a minimum of 1.5-2 hours before going to bed. The blue light will keep your brain stimulated which will keep you from getting into a nice deep sleep. . Sorry for the longer post, but I wanted to make sure I covered enough.
