A couple of months ago I sold my Sony A7riii and 85mm 1.4 GM and picked up a Sony A7iii, Sony 85mm 1.8 and Sigma 135mm 1.8 and still saved some money. I get a lot of DM’s from other photographers switching to Sony about my thoughts on various lenses so here are some photos showing three common lenses 50mm, 85mm and 135mm used for portraits. Thank you to Adriane for hiring me to take her prom photos, she looked amazing. My main light was a Godox Ad200 w/ round head attached to Magmod Magbox w/ focus diffuser. This was my first time using the Magbox during the day, and for a shoot like this, it was perfect … Photo 1: The Sony 85mm 1.8 is by far the best bang for your buck. I picked it up used for $475. It is a perfect working distance for portraits and the background separation is just right. This lens is light, sharp and really fun to use. It is sharper than the 1.4, but the 1.4 beats it in everything else. I recommend this lens if you are new to the Sony system and shoot portraits ... Photo 2: The Sigma 135 is an absolute beast. I picked it up used on Adorama and saved a bunch of money. The compression of this lens is unmatched and it is razor sharp. My only complain is it is heavy and if you plan on taking full body shots you will have to get really far from your subject. Not ideal for shooting in tight spaces and it really struggles if you. If I have space to back up and shoot, this is the lens I use ... Photo 3: The Sony Zeiss 50mm 1.4. This was the first lens I bought when I switched to Sony and I’m still in love with it. The character of this lens (contrast, color, bokeh and sharpness) is outstanding. I use it a lot when I shoot couples or when I want full body shots. Due to its versatility, if I could only own one lens of the three, this would be it ... Which focal length is your favorite @adrianeruvalcaba Sony A7iii . The King of the Jungle living out his last days. This fella was rescued from a circus a few years ago & now lives in a free zoo along with several tigers, monkeys, and a croc. No claws, no teeth, with several scars across his face. He deserved better. He deserves better. And yes, I was absolutely terrified being this close.
