[English follows] ધૂળેટી પછી બીજા દિવસે કવાંટ ગામમાં ગેરનો બહુ મોટો મેળો ઉજવાય છે. રાઠસેનાના લક્ષ્યો આપણને પ્રેરણા આપે છે કે ગેરના મેળામાં વૈશ્વિક આકર્ષણ ઉભું કરીએ અને આ થકી રાઠમિત્રોની રોજગારી અને આવકના સંસાધનોમાં ઉમેરો કરીએ તેમ છતાં એક મિત્રએ મને કહ્યું કે તેના મતે આ વરસે ગેરનો મેળો બહુ સારો ન હતો કારણ કે તેમાં રાજકીય રંગ ભળ્યો હતો. જો તે સાચું હોય તો ખેદજનક છે કારણ કે મેળાની અને આ ફોટામાં રમતા નૃત્યકારોની મારા મનમાં બહુ સારી યાદો છે. [English follows] વર્ષ ૧૯૬૮માં ઑસ્ટ્રિયાના માનવશાસ્ત્રી યોસેફ હેકલે (Joseph Haekel) એક બાબો ગોળિયો એટલે કે ટીમલા ગામ ના ગોળફેરિયા વિષે અંગ્રેજીમાં લેખ પ્રગટ કર્યો હતો. લગભગ પચાસ વરસ પછી મેં આ ટીમલાના ગોળફેરિયાના ફોટા લીધા હતા પણ તાજેતરમાં મેં સાંભળ્યું કે હમણાં ટીમલામાં નહીં પણ બીજા ગામોમાં ગોળફેરિયો થાય છે. [ગુજરાતી? નીચે જુઓ] In the #Chhotaudepur area, the traditional #Rathva heartland, there are weekly #markets known as “hats” (the “a” is pronounced “ah“). The location of these markets varies with the day of the week: on Monday hat is in #Tejgadh, on Wednesday in #Rangpur, on Thursday in #Dehavant, on Friday in #Jhojh, on Saturday in Chhotaudepur itself, and on Sunday in #Panvad (#Kavant taluka). Hats provide an opportunity for people to socialize as well as to procure things that they need. As in this photo, which I took at the Tejgadh hat as long ago as 2008, merchants are often not adivasis. I wonder how much American spice companies would charge for all of those spices.
