I’ve been debating about weather or not to post this, but I’ve decided to share my story. • • I never expected that a consistent flutter in my heart would turn out to be something so serious. • • I never expected a thyroidectomy would be my first surgery (besides getting two babies cut out of me, that counts, right? Lol) • I never expected that I’d have cancer at the age of 25. • • After a few ER visits, repeat biopsy’s and a long and painful wait I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. • • To be completely honest I keep going back and forth with this. My emotions have been alllllllll over the place. One minute I’m -fine- ...like genuinely fine. My thought process is: you don’t NEED your thyroid (I’ll have to take medication for the rest of my life, but that’s okay) my doctors are confident that everything will be okay, the treatment isn’t too crazy compared to some cancer treatments, it’s going to be okay. Then the next moment I’m in tears because there’s CANCER growing in my throat and I can feel it. • • I’m thankful that in my experience so far I have had very few symptoms. I’m not in any pain, but feel violated by my own body. I can’t even turn my head without being reminded of the unwelcome tumor protruding from my neck. It’s a weird feeling, an unsettling feeling, but I’m okay. • I’m scared of surgery, I’m scared of being put to sleep, I’m scared to lose my voice (terrified of that one actually) but I know God has a plan and I’m going to do my best to roll with it. • • Right now the plan is surgery followed by possible radiation. • • I really appreciate all the love and kindness that’s already been shown to me by close family, friends and coworkers.
