Hello friends! This is an urgent plea from me, on behalf of every shelter and rescue in the US (and beyond!). It's 'kitten season' right now, and the shelters/rescues are seeing an unbelievably HUGE number of kittens being dropped off daily. I have seen more desperate pleas from shelters than I ever have before. Shelters in every city across the US are desperately looking for foster homes. Do you have a spare bathroom, laundry room, or extra bedroom where you could keep some kittens for a little while? If not, maybe you can set up a playpen in your living room! If you work full-time, that's ok - you can request to foster a momma cat and her babies (the mom does all the work for you!), or you can request older kittens who are eating on their own. If you work from home, or aren't currently working, consider taking in some bottle babies! Shelters will train you how to bottle feed!! If you work full-time but have an awesome boss, ask them if you can bring in some bottle babies for 3-4 weeks until they're able to eat solid food and stay home. The shelter will provide everything you need (food, litter box, medical care, etc). All you provide is love and a warm place to stay. I can't express how serious the need is for foster homes. Kittens are being euthanized daily because shelters don't have anybody to care for them, and they're not old enough to be put up for adoption. Kittens are usually available for adoption around 7-8 weeks old (depending on your shelters policy), so your foster commitment would be 2 months, maximum! If you can only commit to 1 or 2 weeks of fostering, let your shelter know and they can find kittens who only need a home for a couple weeks. PLEASE call your local shelter and rescue groups ASAP, and tell them you'd like to apply to be a foster home. This influx of kittens being dropped off at shelters and euthanized could've been prevented if people would've spayed and neutered their pets.

Sweet Aretha was born on the streets and found as an outdoor kitty. Some who work in cat rescue also practice #TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return). This means that they Trap outdoor community cats, take them to be Neutered so less babies are born out on the streets, and then Return them to their lives outdoors. While under for their neutering, the tip of their left ear will be clipped, so that other humans that might find them will know to leave them to their happy lives outdoors as community cats!
