“The art must be more important than the subject. In 20 years or 200 years, I don’t want these Trumps to be seen as Trumps ... To me, his face has become an archetype.”—#AdrianGhenie

Visiting the #VeniceBiennale? Stop by the Palazzo Cini to view "Adrian Ghenie: The Battle Between Carnival and Feast," a solo exhibition of ten recent works by the Romanian artist. In the new paintings, Ghenie portrays significant personalities who have left a permanent mark on the course of the history of the world, experimenting with colour and strong physical connotations. As the artist explains, "I want the medium to be stronger than the message."

'These are paintings which express how things feel now, and shifts in history, through a strong, lush materiality, textures of present and past embedded within textures of pigment and canvas.' Financial Times review by Jackie Wullschläger.
Adrian Ghenie's 'The Battle Between Carnival and Feast' is open at Palazzo Cini, La Galleria in Venice to coincide with the 58 Venice Biennale.
Listen to Luca Massimo Barbero, Curator of the exhibition and Director of the Fondazione Cini Institute of Art History, speaking on the exhibition and the artist: 'each painting is conducted as a symphony, but also as a short, incredible, strong sound. With all these incredible gestures he has conducted with a precision - not a drop is there in the wrong place'.
.
'The Battle Between Carnival and Feast' presents recent paintings, a number painted specifically for this exhibition. On one hand they reflect the rich maritime history of the city with its many waterways, and on the other the conflict and turmoil caused by today’s geo-political issues. The exhibition runs until 18 November 2019.
