I didn't know much about A-fest but was open to it and it turned out to be one of the best events I've ever attended. The people I met where some of the most powerful humans I've encountered. Have you ever had a crazy idea you never acted on? . Our story today comes from @vishen "8 years ago I had a dream to create a conference with the world’s best speakers. . The problem? I’d never done anything like that before. . All I had was a one-person team. Just me an @miriamgubovic . So to start, I needed a speaker. . I was attending a conference in Calgary and the woman who spoke on stage completely blew me away. . Her name was Lisa Nichols. . The way she engaged the crowd was transformational — way beyond anything I’ve ever seen. . I was a junior speaker at that same conference and somehow I convinced her for a lunch. . I asked her if she would speak at my event. Her answer was modest but assertive. . “Look Vishen, I really enjoy your company. But I’m already booked for the rest of the year.” . She was speaking on stages all across the world. “I maybe have one weekend free.” It was 11th Dec. . I knew it’s my only chance to make up something and convince her. . So I simply said “That’s perfect because 11th Dec is when A-Fest is happening.” She looked at me surprised and said “Well, if it’s on that weekend, I guess I have no excuse.” What she didn’t realize was that I just made up the first ever A-Fest then and there. . And I had no idea how to pull it off. . But sometimes you just have to say yes and then find a way. . And we did. . The first A-Fest was 11th Dec 2010, Costa Rica — with Lisa on stage. This Nov we hold our 15th event. And Lisa has been to 13 events herself calling it her favorite event of the year. . The lesson? . If you want to do something grand, maybe it’s better to stop overthinking. . Just jump and figure out the rest later. . I had no idea if 11th Dec would work or what the weather would be like. I simply decided that in 6 months on the one weekend this remarkable woman was free I would build a conference where she could speak. . The other day I found a journal I had written in back then where I tried to answer some of the questions about what my best self looked and felt like and what I had in my life.
