||Smile and Wave Boys|| • • • • • • On the way home from cape point we stopped at boulders beach. We saw penguins walking around and already fell in love. We were nearing sunset and the tide was high, so we We went decided to come back the following day at low tide. And I’m so glad we did! We got to walk along the beach and watch these little guys own the beach. The weather was much warmer without the wind, but a still a little chilly to swim. Although there were a few people in the water. This place is called Boulder’s Beach....for obvious reasons. And it’s such a unique beach. Seeing these penguins love the beach more than the snow made me love them even more. • • • • Price per person was the equivalent of about $15 USD. • The do take major Credit Cards • ‍‍‍Very Touristy. The boardwalk is full of people but views the large colonies. Walking on the beach was a little less crowded. You can bring towels and umbrellas and make it a real beach day. • About 1 hour drive from Cape Town. We drove a rental car but many tours stop here. • chance you’ll fall in love with the penguins. • These used to be called Jackass penguins because their calls sound like the bray of a donkey. The African penguin is now considered endangered Average size is 2 ft tall and 8lbs They are cute. But wild. Don’t let them. They will bite you. Both parents help incubate the eggs which are usually laid in pairs. Since 3M Penguins of the African Coast habitat opened in 2011 the Minnesota Zoo has successfully hatched 24 African penguin chicks. Like many penguin species, African penguins are endangered.
