Howard University School of Law’s Class of 2017 led in the percentage of law students at HBCUs who passed a bar examination in their first attempt, according to recently released data from the American Bar Association. - Howard graduates led with 77.2%, followed by Texas Southern University with 60%, Southern University with 57.8%, North Carolina Central University with 57.1%, Florida A&M University with 51.2% and the University of the District of Columbia with 38.5% - Overall, the data showed that nearly 90% of all 2015 law school graduates had passed a state bar examination within two years of graduating from law school. - HBCU law school graduates fell below the national average, though more than 80% of all 2015 law school graduates of both North Carolina Central University and Texas Southern University passed the bar within two years - #HowardLaw ❤ #TheRealHU #BarExam #HBCUGrad #HBCUSMatter #AmericanBarAssociation #TXSU #SU #NCCU #Famu #UDC #lawschool

I always knew how to make my dreams come true! I wasn’t scared of challenges or hard-work. I was determined and committed to one thing: Growth until I reach my maximum potential. 10 years ago, on June 12, 2008 I moved to the Unites States. Today is the 10 year anniversary of me arriving to the land of opportunities. Even though English was my 3rd language, I managed to earn my Juris Doctorate degree this summer! Back in the days, the college advisors didn’t think I could get into an ABA accredited law school, and successfully earn my degree. I proved them wrong! I hope my story motivates others who have a passion to grow but are facing challenges. I believe everyone should pursue their dream career no matter what. Believe me if you love it you can do it! I’m currently studying for the California Bar exam and I’m looking at this as a privilege; an honor to have a chance to take and pass the bar exam! I hope one day I’ll be known as the Loving Lawyer: “the attorney who loves and cares for her clients so much, because she truly loves what she does!” Renia Zadourian, J.D.

I am the rose that grew from a crack in the concrete. I know it is a little cliché for me to cite poetry from the late Tupac Shakur; however, I cannot think of a better metaphor that encapsulates my journey. My mother was fifteen when I was conceived. Young and living in poverty, she was extremely terrified. That terror heightened when she learned my father would be imprisoned for nearly fifteen years of my life for selling dope. While the government fought the war on drugs, my mother had her own battle to fight as a black, teenage, single mother. However, I can firmly attest, my mother won that war. I am extremely proud to be the daughter of LaDonna Telford. She is now an amazing wife, nurse and mother of five children--two of whom were adopted into our family when I was 13. It was at their adoption hearing I decided I wanted to become a judge. The judge presiding over that hearing allowed me to bang his gavel to finalize the adoption. As an innocent child, this simple gesture formed the basis of my career because: 1) I thought the judge's robe was cool; 2) I enjoyed banging the gavel; and 3) I knew when I hit that gavel, Dutchie and Nevers would permanently be my brothers. Today, I prosecute child abuse and neglect cases with the hope that if a child cannot be safely reunified with his/her biological family, a loving and permanent home will be found for that child, just as the law permitted for my brothers. While I’d like to think I’ve accomplished a lot, I hope to preside on the bench one day. However, as for now, I'm still a rose and I’m still blooming. Christle Jones, J.D., M.S.W

Signatures are being collected for two letters arguing that #Kavanaugh disqualified himself with his angry and tearful remarks to the #Senatejudiciarycommittee. Kavanaugh claimed an allegation that he committed a sexual assault aged 17 was 'a calculated and orchestrated political hit' by Democrats. The professors say in their letters that Kavanaugh displayed contempt towards members of Congress, a #politicalbias that could call into question his future rulings, and a temperament unsuited to a lifetime position on the highest court. Citing both federal law and the #AmericanBarAssociation’s code of judicial conduct, the academics note that Kavanaugh is obliged to promote 'public confidence in the independence, integrity, and impartiality of the judiciary' and will be required to step aside from a case if he is at risk of being perceived as unfair.
