We’re thicc for the summer

My last post showcased an image that didn’t make it into Between Two Rivers. This one, posted previously, did make it to the book alongside @pochphoto’s poem titled The Llano River. It’s also another look at the waterfall I featured eight posts ago. This was one of those rare mornings years ago when the water temperature, air temperature, the direction of the sunrise, and the sky’s reflection, water level, and other environmental conditions collided for a couple photographers making images of a beautiful river in the Texas Hill Country. We called it 377 Falls because it was just a short drive off of Highway 377, but I know it now as McKenzie Falls, named after the daughter of a landowner whose land we use to access it. • I’ve fielded a number of requests for books and prints, so in the coming week or so, I’m going to make purchasing signed copies of the book and a limited run of select prints from it available on my website. Here you will find me in my happy place. Posing beneath Codfish Creek Falls along the North Fork of the American River, I let the sounds of rushing water, numerous birds, and wind moving through the trees envelope my senses. Getting to this waterfall was a fun adventure. Down a several mile long washed out dirt road - high clearance vehicle required - and to a tiny almost non-existent parking lot, the first site was an old bridge with long wooden planks. Hiking downriver, the trail eventually meandered up into the hills to the falls. Despite being only a few miles long, the trail was inundated with beauty for the eyes and ears. Hiking after it rained the day before was so refreshing. The air felt pure and crisp. Don’t be fooled by the calendar. There are only as many days in the year as you make use of. . . . I needed to read this today. Coming back from vacation is so hard but I feel like everyday was well spent with amazing people.
