The “Keto Diet.” Some people argue that following a diet high in fat and low in carbs should only be followed for a short period of time due to health issues. This may be the case for those who solely rely on butter, eggs, cheese and meat to get by. But when you gather your fats from healthy foods such as avocado, macadamia nuts, olives, MCT oil, etc. and your carbs from green veggies instead of bread, this is the best thing that you could have ever done for your health.
And if right now you’re relying on bacon and eggs for fat, don’t feel bad. When we first started, it was cheese and bacon and butter. The hubby was eating bacon and eggs and I was relying on cheese and butter. Since then, we have cut back on cheese, butter, bacon, eggs, etc. and have found healthier alternatives. This has helped continue our weight loss, reduced inflammation, and overall we feel great. So don’t feel bad for not diving in on strict keto right away. Little by little you learn what works for you, you ditch one food and replace with another.

I had a 9 year old boy come in with the complaint of pain due to his diagnosis of Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis. This sweet boy was kind and shy, and his Mom brought him in because she said he was in constant pain and it was disrupting his day to day life.

I gave him and his mom papers to fill out. One was a drawing of a body, and he had to mark where his pain was.

Thee ENTIRE body was filled in.

I had a flare up of my celiac symptoms after the big move. It has been frustrating but I feel so grateful that I have learned what my body needs to sleep better, increase my appetite and calm my anxious mind. Since arriving in Philly I’ve pushed myself to adopt a structured routine, prioritize stress management and cook all up some nutrient dense food. .

Soups are my go-to when I’m not feeling well because they are 1) easier to digest than raw food 2) contain a variety of veggies and therefore a variety of nutrients and 3) it’s flavored with ginger, turmeric and homemade broth which all reduce inflammation and help heal my gut. .
Y’all know I love my Breakfast Soup!

Ingredients:
1 sweet potato
3 carrots
3 ribs of celery
1 yellow onion
1/2 head of cauliflower
1 rutabaga 1-2 inches of ginger
1 tsp. turmeric (I use @diasporaco!)
4 cups of bone broth
1/4 c. coconut milk (optional)
1 tsp apple cider vinegar salt .

Directions:
if using organic produce, give the veggies a good scrub, but you can leave the peel on. A lot of nutrients are in the peel, it takes less work and it blends well after being cooked. roughly chop all veggies, ginger and add to the instant pot. Add 4 cups of broth, 1tsp of turmeric and a few punches of salt. set Instant Pot on high for 10 mins. You can naturally release steam or do quick release if you’re ready2eat. let cool slightly and carefully ladle the soup into a blender in batches. blend until smoooooth and taste for salt levels, adding more if necessary!

Serving:
I top my soup with proteins like pulled chicken or a piece of bacon plus herbs like scallion or cilantro. .
