Weeks back, I made a really simple Arabic Home Bingo card for my daughter to review the new vocabulary she was learning in the Madinah Arabic Books. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Yesterday, my kids used the Arabic Home Bingo for their Arabic lesson. I had my eldest teach her younger siblings the vocabulary. She read to them the names of each household item and then spelled out each letter the words contained. She was in charge of calling out the items using the caller card while they played two rounds of bingo using chips. The next round they matched the Arabic words to the pictures on the bingo card. Before they packed up, I set the timer for 5 minutes and had each child play a matching game with the cards. The pressure got them really excited! 30 seconds was the record ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Today, we'll review the vocabulary again using the bingo cards as well as a few Usborne flashcards, and finish with reading a book about houses. I've uploaded the product in my online stores if you're interested :)
#arabiclearningtip جذر ثلاثي ROOT LETTERS رَبَعَ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
One of the meanings for the letters ر ب ع is to consist of four parts or elements (quadruple). If any word has these 3 letters as their triliteral root letters, it will be associated with the number four or increasing fourfold.
أَرْبَـعَـة - Four
أَرْبَــعُــوْن - Forty (four tens)
رُبْـــع - Quarter (one fourth)
مُـــرَبَّـــع - Square (a shape with four sides)
الأَرْبِــعَــاء - Wednesday (the fourth day of the week) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Most Arabic words are formed around 3 letters and these letters are the indicators of the words meaning.
Do you know of any other word that has ر ب ع as its root letters? ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀

We are wrapping up our Arabic Numbers Unit. For the most part, I only used my Free Arabic Numbers (1-10) pack with manipulatives and dice (link in bio). Numbers is an ongoing topic and my children were familiar with how to say the numbers 1-10, so our math learning centre activities were focused on familiarizing them with the Arabic spelling of the words and how the Arabic numerals look
.
I initially started the #99NamestoRamadan countdown with the Beautiful Names of God to not only teach my children His Names but also to have my kids practice daily the Arabic numbers starting from 99. I haven't kept up with the project , but we have practiced forming numbers by simply using a good ol' paper and pen/marker (swipe to see :) @kitabkids has this beautiful wall collection of all The Names for their #99namesproject2019. So now I'm excited to have a visual reminder!
.
One thing I wish I had more of are storybooks using numbers in a fun way (). Usually it's only a page in a book with the Arabic numbers and some objects
.
Are there any story books you recommend that teaches the Arabic numbers?
I had the pleasure of moderating the TMH monthly meeting today. For almost 13 years now, Homeschool Mothers in the Greater Toronto Area have met every month to share homeschool resources and discuss various topics that affects us as mothers.
Today, we started with a Homeschool 101 session which included general information on home education as well as common concerns new homechoolers have. Our sharing topic this month was Science Curriculum. A LOT was shared. I'm in the midst of writing out my notes from the meeting and creating a blog post on the TMH site for people to truly get a sense of how beautiful, beneficial and impactful these meetings truly are! I always leave happier, more informed, more confident in my decision to homeschool and re-energized to take on the world! No joke! LOL .
After this, we briefly touched on Winter Activities (check out the latest TMH post for over 50 Winter activities in science, technology, English, math, arts&crafts, outdoors and Arabic! ✨) .
Before breaking for our catered brunch , Sr.Reena Vanza gave a talk about anxiety - understanding it as well as techniques on how to cope. It was a really nice talk .
Arabic is a subject many Muslim Homeschoolers add to their home education for their children to not only be able to recite the Quran but to have a better understanding of Islam without relying on translations. Since I'm working on creating a simple Arabic curriculum @arabnicles , I decided to hand out a few free sample pages of my work to the mothers :) .
Being apart of a supportive homeschool community has truly made my children's homeschool experience better and has enriched my life :) I'm forever grateful .
TMH = Toronto Muslim Homeschoolers @torontomuslimhomeschoolers :)
I had opportunity today to moderate another TMH monthly meeting. For almost 13 years, Homeschool Mothers in the Greater Toronto Area meet every. single. month. to share homeschool resources and discuss various topics that affects us as mothers. It's truly a supportive initiative I am so fortunate to be apart of. @torontomuslimhomeschoolers .
After our discussion and listening to our guest speaker, I gave out a few free sample pages of the Arabic curriculum I am working on as mothers ate a catered brunch. We were spoiled today! .
Launch day is tomorrow! My first product will be FREE for you to assess the quality of my work :)

How I Teach Arabic. For over a decade, I have taught children and adults how to read and write Arabic. I start with the 28 Arabic letters. I combine properly pronouncing the letters with letter recognition in all forms, while gradually introducing how the language is constructed.
A typical lesson starts with the Arabic alphabet. Students repeat the sound of each letter after me. Then I give a listening quiz of 3-10 words related to what we have covered already. We review last week's lesson and take up homework (there's always homework ). Then I'll start the new lesson.
I'm not 100% satisfied with Arabic learning books, so I create a ton of worksheets and quizzes specifically catered to my students . Over the years, I have used the following resources in addition to my own:
1) Learn How to Read Arabic in 30 Days. This is an old book (I got if 15 years ago..) but one I have students buy as a guide and to use for individual study when I'm not around
2) Read by @LearningRoots This book is almost identical to the first, but the script is different (Naskh) so I have students use this to become familiar with various Arabic fonts (#typography)
3) At-Tibyan. I LOVE this book. I use this book only after my students have learned almost all the rules associated with reading because by Lesson 5 students are required to know all short vowels, sukoon and shaddah. This book is to reinforce what I have taught them (practice, practice, practice!) because the other books do not have enough practice within them
4) Word Flow by @LearningRoots These beautiful flashcards contain some of the most commonly used words in the Quran to help with fluency in recitation
5) The Quran. I have students start reading directly from the Quran once they've learned all the rules and have completed At-Tibyan. I usually start with a single line or two.
I always have my older students learn how to write Arabic as I'm teaching them how to read because it reinforces learning.
I always teach how to read and write Arabic for FREE It's what I'm passionate about and I truly strive to make it easy for others to learn
Tell me, how did you learn Arabic?
