Infertility is a topic that most women struggle with alone and while I have had many friends and family members who had to go through fertility treatments, many don't share this with their closest friends. I always wanted to be a mom and after getting married we struggled to concieve on our own and used assisted reproductive treatment. After months of fertility drugs and failed insemination, we could not believe our eyes when we got that positive pregnancy test after what felt like hundreds of negatives before. #InfertilityUncovered -- It's National Infertility Awareness Week and we're just over here showing off our epic baby pictures that ONLY #IVF babies are cool enough to receive For anyone who is new around here, these are my went-through-hell-cried-a-ton-got-angry-often-until-i-nearly-gave-up ROUND 4 IVF MIRACLE BABIES! After (unknowingly) struggling with severe male factor infertility for a year, we decided to see a reproductive endocrinologist. We we're given less than a 1% chance of conceiving naturally. ICSI was our only option, and even that seemed grim. I naively figured because I was healthy and my husband was "the problem" that we would have success on our first try. WRONG. Not only did we not have success on our first transfer, we had an early miscarriage following our second transfer, and outright failed our third transfer of two embryos! We were broken. I felt like my body was failing us. Infertility is an emotionally, physically and financially draining disease. We had nearly given up when we decided to pursue one more transfer as our final attempt. Two embryos were transferred with hopes that at least one would stick. Beta day brought both great and unexpected news. Our numbers were sky high! A promising indication that our final attempt was about to prove DOUBLY exciting. Sure enough there were not one, but TWO little hearts beating in the womb I had practically written off. I grew those babies for 37.5 long weeks. Infertility has a way of taking all the fun out of pregnancy for fear of something going wrong at any moment. Still, it's a happy ending. Perseverance paid off. Not only did I grow stronger through the process, relationships deepened, friendships developed, and I learned to not take things for granted. So much so, that a year after giving birth to the twins, I convinced my best friend to let me carry her baby for her so she too could beat infertility and enjoy motherhood by my side. Infertility caused a lot of havoc in my life, but in hindsight it was all worth it. Update! So on Wednesday I went in for my ultrasound to see if we had any good follicles. I saw a PA instead of my doctor and she told me she saw 3 almost ready follicles and a possible 4th. She said if the 4th grew she would cancel the round. I was devastated... told me to come back in on Friday. Friday: went in today for my ultrasound and got to see my doctor! She found 3 follicles on the right measuring 17, 16, and 14mm and on the left 18mm. She was very comfortable about moving forward. She asked me if I was ok with the possibly of having twins because she didn’t think I would have triplets. I said HELL YEAH! Now the plan is to trigger Saturday night and IUI is scheduled for Monday! What a great early birthday present/news.
